exlondoner
Hello everyone, my name is Mick and I'm originally from the UK. I have been contemplating switching cars and currently own a 996 C2 that has been a pleasure for over the last three years - in terms of reliability and fun! I have been a fan of Caterham for a while now and came across the folloiwng from a local but I have no idea about 7's (yet). The specs are listed as: Caterham 7 Zetec: 185 hp Raceline Zetec, 5 speed. Twin Webers. Given this does anyone know what kind of performance one can expect? Here is a picture of my current weekend driver. Many thanks. If you have never ridden in a 7 you're in for a surprise. Acceleration in the 1st 3 gears is brutal. The real difference is in the connection with the environment. It's more like riding a superbike. Mazda can probably connect you with a local 7 owner for a ride.

yellowss7
Welcome! Figure the 996 0-60 time is around 5.3 seconds or so. The 7 should be in the low 4 second range. As for handling, the difference from the 996 to the 7 is about the difference between the 996 and say a big old american sedan. At least that's what the difference seems like to me, and I have one of each of the above, except my 7 has 200 hp so is a little quicker. yellowss7
Based on how the 996's perform at the autoxes, I'd say yeah it's about right

MHKflyer52
I have to agree with Tom as I also have a Porsche (1970 914-6) and a 7 (Hand Built Replica) with only 120+HP and I preferr the 7 to the Porsche for fun plus it is the only car that I have ever owned that has had some of the local Porsche Club members protesting me and my 7 running at a club auto-x because they could not beat my times....had to laugh at that and the board members backed me up and said that I could run my 7 as long as the auto-x's are open to anyone if the number of Porsches did not fill the max cars for the auto-x. DB6
Err, the man did not say he was looking for an AutoX car, did he? By the way who said this>>> "yeah, the Porsche was a whole lot more civilized and certainly would get more exercise than the 7. Now can I get a set of golf clubs in? "

exlondoner
Hello everyone, wow so many responses The 996 pictured is mine and the picture was taken at the Fort Hunt Meet in VA. In terms of 0-60 and handling I would say she's def in the 4.7 range since it came to 2940 after a recent weigh in. For those that are curious here are the full specs: Mileage: 25,500 Full MK1 Aero Kit 19" Champion RG5b's with Michelin PS2 RSS Plenum TechArt Suspension TechArt Sports Filter TechArt ShiftKnob TechArt Pedals TechArt Race version Exhaust with OEM larger sports tips B&M Short Shifter Euro OEM Black Leather GT3 seats Removed rear seats GT3 Console Delete Litronics Full leather with black suede headliner I've never actually tried autoxing but would like this year to contain some track events and really enjoy it. I would love to be a passenger in a seven. Does anyone know what kind of performance to expect from the one I listed in my opening post - it states 185hm 1.8 cc. Cheers Lads! pksurveyor
I had a Porsche 911 before my addiction to Lotus/Caterham. The Porsche is comfortable, reliable, fast, and solid as a rock. The Seven beats your body to pieces, requires tinkering, scares you silly with its go kart mentality, and has all kind of rattles and funny noises. exlondoner
Here is a pic of one I saw it's a 1997 with 4500 miles 185 hp Raceline Zetec, 5 speed. Twin Webers. but I have no idea what kind of performance numbers it's putting out. What are Twin Webbers?
DB6
Two BBQs. Nah I assume you are under 40 then? They are the 2 big ass lumps of metal air filters hanging off the side of the engine(my son asked me the same when I got this car, lol) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carburetor Yeah you ain't met a nurd till u have met a 7 owner. What is he asking for that car? It's odd to see that set up(the car you are looking at with the Ztech and DCO s) in the states, Raceline is good by the way,I have one of their motors.
