southwind25
Quick question: it seems as if allot of people are using the (red-small-flat) oddessey dry cell battery. Which one (model #) is everyone using? where did they get it for how much? i am tired of my tractor battery. thanks.
slngsht
That's the Odyssey PC680. I think I bought mine for $119 from ebay. I eventually switched to the PC925, which is slightly larger. PC680 did a fine job cranking over my V8 even in cold weather, BUT, it does not have much charge if you keep any accessories running (without engine running). I found my car had just enough drain on the battery that if you didn't start it every 10 days, it needed a jump. With the PC925, no such problems. scannon
I have the PC680. No problems for three years starting my Miata engine. I don't have any accessories for it to support other than a radar detector which shuts off when the key is turned off. It weighs 15 lb. I got it through a Google search for about $95 delivered from some place in the NE USA.
Mike Rohaley
Same here Robert, Odyssey PC680. It has worked perfectly for 3 years and still maintains 14.1 V while running or 13.7 V with the headlights on. It has plenty of cranking power unless you are running crazy compression ratios. I have one at home that was used for an afternoon if you are interested in it (essentially brand spankin' new except I could save you a few bucks, $75 if you are interested). I also have drawings for a hold down that works better than the one supplied by Odyssey. I will post a picture of it if I can find it.
eVox
pc-680 with the optional metal casing (it was instock, but weights a fraction more). It wont crank if i dont drive the car for a week or so, i think due to parasitic drains on some of my circuits (like the 3rd brake light flasher). I should really just put a battery kill switch on the car. Throwing a 6amp/12V battery charger on it for an hour or two before taking it out and there is no problems. powderbrake
I have been using the Jet Works KB35 XC gel battery for jetskis in my Ultralite for 4 years now, and it has always worked great. I put it on a battery tender in the off season. Very small and reliable, and $80 here's a link: http://www.jetworks.net/kb35xc.htm
southwind25
Mike, that sounds great! the price is right. I am sure i can make my own holdown so your drawings would be welcomed. Dont need to bring it to the winery tour, i might want to get it beforehand. give me a call and we can set something up?
gjslutz
Panasonic also makes one that size with more cranking amps than the PC680. I have tried both in my A/C, they didn’t hold up with my 11.5 to 1 CR. Last week I drove home 30 miles, lights on in the dark with my alternator inop. I sure was glad I had a normal size battery. A wire had broken of the alternator.
southwind25
battery report: got the pc680 installed. installation was very easy and i only had to make a new holdown bracket. total weight savings was only about 3 lbs. including the holdown replacing the old style. ((the tractor battery i had was lighter than i thought.)) After a 150 mile weekend including running lights and city traffic, the car starts well, and seems to charge well. so far so good! Mike Rohaley
I still owe you your 5 dollar change and I'm glad to hear it is working well for you. 3 pounds is still good as any upgrade that includes a weight savings is a great bonus (now if I could only deduct 3, 10 or 15 pounds from the driver, that would really be great!).
