Go to Google news and enter Caterham and read about how in this economy they're the one company that is actually expanding. It's actually one automobile that makes better sense in terms of how little it depreciates in value compared to most others. How many vehicles do you know that demand $25k at 20 years old? Most 911 Porsche's, BMW's, or Mercedes can't even boast that. It's great that the Seven can find support on many levels of income. If Caterham is out of your range don't knock the people that find enjoyment and contribute on that level. We are here (in this forum) to support and encourage the Seven. Now I think I'll sit back and drink my stout while watching my favorite episode(s) of the Prisoner. :auto: No need to get your panties in a wad -- just making an observation and I wasn't knocking anybody. They sell Z06s don't they? I just haven't gotten around to buying the gold chain yet. What one can afford and what one chooses to afford are often quite different. NO doubt $55K is a lot of scratch. If it floats your boat, dive in. Your point about 7s being avail able for many price levels is well taken. I'll try and stay in the part of the pool where I can keep my head above the water -- treading water can get pretty old, or so I've heard. And not that it's anyone's business, but I'm not made of money and in fact would have preferred to keep the purchase price of my seven considerably lower than what this one will be once all is said and done. V-Robb Posted December 31, 2009 Share Posted December 31, 2009 So here's where we are: Got the paperwork for the DMV run on January 4th: mso, bill of sale for chassis, and bill of sale for engine/trans. Went to DMV the day before yesterday and had all my papers checked and they verified I've got the right forms and such. So in a few days I'll be nice and cold hanging out at the DMV office extra early with other lunatics trying to get our SB-100 numbers before they run out. It took me almost a month and 3 boxes of donuts to get past the State Trooper inspection and DMV blue-haired ladies. Make sure you get jelly-filled AND the ones with sprinkles. Anyhow, congrats on being so close. And you may actually be able to drive it, unlike the rest of us snowed-in, salted-in residents of the northern climes. Chris T built my car and did an excellent job. He has also been a very helpful resource, tho I know not everyone has had happy experiences w/his shop. My '04 Caterham has a VIN from the factory in the correct format and 17 digits. However, the Colorado DMV's computer didn't recognize it as a legitimate VIN so they required that a DMV assigned VIN plate be attached by the highway patrol. The officer managed to install it slightly less than horizontal. :ack: The Colorado VIN is not in the standard format and is much less than 17 digits. It did not show up on the title or registration but the Caterham assigned 17 digit VIN did. athens7 Posted January 2, 2010 Share Posted January 2, 2010 Caterham VINs are 17 digit, US conforming format, and located on the right side of the engine bay on the top lip of the sheet metal, where the edge of the bonnet rests. Georgia recognizes both the VIN and the brand of car for titling purposes, and my VIN also pulls up on Autocheck, albeit with incomplete information about year and equipment (can you believe they couldn't intuit the type of engine from the VIN? Mine is on the back of the pedal box at the rear with a cutout in the ali pedal box cover to let it show through. Some are on the upper frame tube on the passenger side of the engine compartment about a foot forward of the firewall. I suspect there are more places as well. Mondo Posted January 3, 2010 Share Posted January 3, 2010 V-Rob, Not to give you a more sleepness night but.... being paid puts you into the DMV system, you don't have to wait while the clerk enters all your info into the computer, reviews and staples all your paperwork, takes your check (tax & fees) etc.... all this before the clerk passes your info to the those making the call to Sacramento on your behalf. It just improves your odds as all the SB100s will be gone in a couple hours and you'll be biting your lip as the minutes it takes to load you in the system preciously slip by.... Being one of the first in line should help a lot though as some DMVs got SB100s for everyone that was there early last year. Good luck mate. And done it is!! 10 of us looking for SB100 numbers this morning, and all 10 of us got 'em! So glad that's done... Time to get the 7 shipped and on to the next reg steps.
