JohnCh
I’ve had mine for over 8 years and am still very happy with it. In terms of engines, you have a lot of options with Westfield. Over the years, their standard 4-cylinder has changed from Crossflow to Zetec and now they offer a choice between Duratec and Miata. They also have the SEiGHT which uses the Rover/Buick all aluminum V8 and the Megabusa that uses the Hayabusa engine/trans combo. My car started life as a crossflow car, but underwent a complete rebuild ~6 years ago (current spec and before & after photos on my website), and now has a 210hp Duratec that I built with some parts and input from Raceco in the UK. One thing I've discovered through the years is that Westfields are very sensitive to setup. I had a lot of handling problems that I finally tracked down to incorrect rake and less than ideal alignment settings. Once everythign was set correctly, the handling was transformed. -John
scannon
I have a Caterham but I have driven FM's Westfield several times and found it to be a delightful car. The first time I drove it it was powered by a stock 1.6 Miata engine and I was surprised at the quickness of the car. It now has a turbo 1.8 and it is blindingly quick. I actually liked the steering of the Westfield better than my Caterham, less effort and better feel. The pedal setup was better for heel/toe work as well but some judicious bending of the pedals in the Caterham fixed that. Had the Westfield designed for Miata components been available when I bought my Caterham I probably would have bought the Westfield based mainly on the price. I saw the FM Westfield in several stages of it's assembly and was impressed with the quality and design of the kit. I do like the look of the Caterham better than the Westfield but that probably wouldn't have kept me from buying one.
lancylad
Thanks John Really enjoyed reading the 2005 trip events, cant wait to experience road trips in the same fashion, minus one or two of the quick fix sessions..awesome looking ride you have. I"ll be sure to post pics of mine when I find it. Steve
lancylad
Hey Skip Thanks for the reply, there are only 37 sevens as far as I am aware in Canada, and bringing one in has its pitfalls, mainly that they have to be 15 years old. So that will mean some re-fettling, dirt under the fingernails and words our mothers would not approve of..I mean to have me one, caterham or westfield.
