scannon Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 It made my day as well. I witnessed early prototype testing of this system in 1966 while stationed aboard the carrier USS Coral Sea. The ship was tied up to the pier at Hunters Point Naval Station in SF bay and fired a 50s Plymouth sedan off the catapult. 0 - around 160 mph in about 2 seconds. Parts were coming off the car before it hit the water. When it hit it looked like a bomb went off inside the car. I'm happy to see the system has been put to such good use.
