I am curious about how this would match up with my kent 1600 with a RedLine sump. Your guard does not extend v-far beyond the front edge of the sump. I envision basically the same thing, attached on that same frame tube, but extending along and just beyond the rear of the sump and attaching there via the two lower bell housing bolts. A sheet of 0.125 Al sheet 7+in wide and 24in long. There will be a 1.5 in tall,90 lip bent up at the rear to accommodate the slots for the bell-bolts.

Now, my sump is not flat, it slopes down from the front toward the rear, the lowest part. I feel that I need protection there too. What do you think? ultraslow

MichaelD:

Here are a couple photos of the bellypan from my car. It has about 5 years and 35,000 miles of real world testing under its belt with no issues (metal fatigue or noise). Obviously this one is well worn and showing debris peppering but new ones will be pristine. If anyone is interested they are available for $275 (excluding shipping). The kit includes all mounting tabs (with aluminum rivnuts fitted) and stainless hardware, also 20-1/8" aluminum rivets. They are designed for non-SV cars with DeDion rear ends.

Oh yeah, the A-frame is just there for the sake of showing how it attaches. It is not part of the kit (I knew someone would call me out on that if I didn't state it first).

Are these still being made? i would like a bellypan and also the sump guard. Is there anyway to contact Mike? he hasn't been on for a couple years it looks like.

I don't think Mike Rohaley is selling these anymore and the MidAtlantic Caterham dealership appears to be closed.   Does anyone have an available recommendation on a skid plate / sump guard that works with a Raceline wet sump?

I bought Michael D's car and have the skid plate Alderman put on the car. It is much simpler than the one at the start of this thread. It is no more than a piece of diamond plate aluminum attached to the frame just like the pictures at the start of the thread and bent down under the oil pan. It does not roll around the frame tube, and no attempt at bending the sides of the plate to strengthen the unsupported part of the plate before going under the oil pan. The only forming to the plate was to bend it down from the rear frame attachment to go under the oil pan, then bend it back so it rides along the bottom of the pan. There are four slots cut in the plate and hose clamps go through the slots and around the frame tubes to secure it to the car.
