xflow7 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Well, color me confused. I figured that article was about Lotus Cars (aka Group Lotus) targeting some involvement in Indycar. Sounds like great news if it can be parlayed into a Lotus-designed chassis in a multi-chassis formula for 2012. But then the last paragraph implies the Indy entry is tied up with the new Lotus F1 Team which is unrelated Group Lotus. I wonder what the truth is! OK, just gone and Googled Mr. Berro and it seems he belongs to Group Lotus, so the Indy entry must be coming from there.
scannon Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 I was at the LOCO (Lotus Colorado) meeting this evening. One of our members is William Taylor who writes and publishes many of the Lotus books, most recently one on the Evora. He has great contacts inside Group Lotus, was allow access to the Evora as it was designed, engineered and built. He spent a little time on the subject of how Lotus Formula 1 acquired the Lotus name and what the relationship is now. He also commented on the Indy 500 connection and he said the he isn't sure which entity is actually proposing to do the Indy car series as from what he hears it could be either one. He "thinks" it is Lotus the car manufacturer but wonders about the Lotus/Toyota engine road car connection vs running Honda engines in the Indy cars. He is also quite disappointed that it appears the F1USA team is going down the tubes as he had a commitment from them to write a book on that effort.
slngsht Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Well, with Toyota drivetrain, all the driver has to do is steer, so they'll probably get the nod. Just plant a driver in the seat, hand 'em a wheel and say "here's the wheel. Don't worry about the pedal. Good luck son"
