Wheel and tire question

Yes, I know there is a wheel and tire section http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/blush5.gif I'll move it there shortly http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif

I called up BF Goodrich today, b/c they have drag radials in sizes ranging from 275 to 325 in 15" diameters.

Basically drag radials are R compound tires with softer sidewalls. I figured with our cars being light, that may not be a problem, and I could run these tires effectively in autox. Anyway, their tech guy agreed that the strategy makes sense.

So, question is, what 15X9 or 15X10 wheels do you recommend? I could go 325 in the rear, 275 front, or stay 275 all around.

Obviously I want the wheels to cost $1, weigh 1 lb, and have no trouble running over mines http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif

Drag radials in auto-x?! Are you mad? Granted they have great grip but they have NO sidewall! That tire will roll over all the time!

I have a good buddy that runs the BFG KD's on the street and BFG Drag Radials at the track and sometimes on the street. He says that they are SCARY on the street. They have no feedback and are squirmey(sp) He runs these on his 650whp Supra.

I would not think that these would be safe and fast.

Wouldn't it be better to change the rim diameter up to like a 16 or 17 and then you can use a Hooser A6 or a Kuhmo.

Good luck

Ken

That's the other option. But keep in mind, the supra is over 3500 lbs.

I hope that i did not come off malicious. I didn't mean that if i did. I just didn't see it as a safe idea. I'm a local Solo Chairman and Tech inspector. I'm not sure that i would let a car with DR's run at a autox. I think that it is a safty risk. But like kitkat said i bet it left like no other! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/reddevil.gif

I will be battling traction when i get my locost built With a L67. And one of the ways that i HOPE to take care of it is just tires... I plan to run 245/45/17 (Falken 615's) on the street (stock mustang GT tire size) LOTS of options and to race i think that i would swap out the rears for a 275/40/17, Same rolling diameter. with some race rubber.

Good luck with your adventure in tires. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/coolgleamA.gif

No prob.

I just pulled the trigger on a set of C5 wheels and tires that LocostV8 told me about.

Now I have to go home and make sure they won't hit the body http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif. If they do, i'll use them as a spare set for the C5. If there is room, I can put my Z06 wheels on the Rotus.

18" wheels are "a bit" much for the Rotus http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif but I'll throw them on and see. They were almost free. I'll have to buy adaptors though, so definitely not the ideal setup.

I have a set of R compound autox tires on my vette now, on Z06 wheels, that can go on the Rotus - if I go that route.

I'm going to put the set that I bought on the vette for daily driving. it's the stock GY runflats.

I'm not crazy about adaptors either
