65 Years Ago my Dad shot this film along Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki capturing spontaneous celebrations that broke out upon first hearing news of the Japanese surrender. Kodachrome 16mm film: God Bless Kodachrome, right? I was able to find an outfit (mymovietransfer.com) to do a much superior scan of this footage to what I had previously posted, so I re-did this film and replaced the older version There are more still images from this amazing day, in color, at http://www.discoveringhawaii.com

Very important documentary. Your dad should get a medal for this job.

One thing I noticed, the soldier of yesteryears were lean, healthy and well fit vs today's fat tattoed bulky soldiers. ....but the same people who served for the country & deserved an utmost respect.

Another interesting item related to WWII. A user controllable 360 degree view of the inside of the cockpit of a P-51 Mustang. Use the controls in the lower left of the picture to move around or you can click and drag the cursor to move around. You can zoom in and read the warning labels on the various controls.

Thanks Skip. My grandad, a first generation German-American, fought in the Pacific theater during WWII. One of the coolest mementos I have is a photo he took of the Japanese surrender at Guadalcanal. It shows a closeup of a Japanese soldier with his head bowed. The photo isn't necessarily the highest quality, but I prize it for what it represents.
