Precription Lens Driving Glasses

Recommended Posts

I have been using normal sports sunglasses with stick-on lenses for several years to be able to read the dials, GPS and the like. Kind of O.K. but I found these DeWalt branded safety glasses with integrated reading lenses. Work pretty well for driving, don't look too dorky, obviously shatterproof and at 13 bucks cheaper than the stick-on lenses that fall off. And, when I step, sit on it or otherwise lose them, no big deal. Also available in clear for night driving.

So, I guess recommended http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000646VGM

However, if you are as blind as a bat and need prescription glasses for both distance and close up reading the dials then I use these two products when driving a seven:

1) outfitters 24 - have a strap that ties them on behind your head plus they cup your eyes to keep out dust

or

2) fitovers

I have found the Wiley X glasses to be very good. Designed for motorcycling they have both temple pieces and a headband you can use, and they seal around your eye to keep dirt out and the air from drying your eyes out. quality is terrific, but not cheap.

+1 on Wiley X. ANSI rated impact protection, fantastic field of view, fits in a helmet and does not allow any dirt in your eyes.

OK, I can agree that they might have been developed for motorcycle riding, but they have been PERFECTED by years of HMMWV riding...... Even on their own website, "tactical" is listed before "motorcycle" or any other use.

Yes I know the Wileyx and also have had Panoptx motorcycle glasses. But I use them only when it is really cold. Otherwise I prefer regular bicycling/skiing sunglasses.

I posted the recommendation for the DeWalt glasses mainly because prescription lenses for this are normally very expensive. The DeWalt ones are dirt cheap and work well.

Dunno.. I have Kids and Grandkids on the streets.

Best give some serious thoughts to surrendering your license if you cannot even see the darn dials on your dash !.

Every week there are reports of some doddering fool ruining families/lives just cuz the shmuck wouldn't admit to human infirmities ??

This is an overcrowded world.. there's no longer a place or tolerance for selfishness.

There is also a case for not over reacting. I wear driving glasses and also have reading glasses, I am sure that many of us fall into a similar category of correcting our vision but are still perfectly ok to drive and enjoy our toys.

Or a tolerance for ignorant intolerance. I've needed glasses for both distance and reading since I was 10. I may not have been an Olympic athlete at that age, but neither was I a doddering old fool. With corrective lenses, both my distance and close vision is better than 20/20. However, both sunglasses and safety glasses are a problem, as neither seem to commonly be available in quality products for glasses wearers. Yes, I know I can get prescription sunglasses, but my lenses cost over $600, and it doesn't solve the safety glasses issue.
