I'd love to bring the Birkin out there but my buddy's Buell XB9 or VFR will have to do. Any suggestions for nice stretches of twisty backroads through NY and PA? Proj217 Posted July 13, 2011 Share Posted July 13, 2011 Hawks Nest in Port Jervis, NY and 7 Lakes Drive near Bear Mountain are good spots, but there's a lot of traffic around as well. Old Mine Road used to be a great hidden gem near Dingmans Ferry on the PA/NJ border but the road is in dire need of a repave. I would not go there with a bike or 7. South East of Dingmans Ferry is River Road which is quite nice, secluded and has lots of interesting little side roads. Highly recommended. Swamp road if you make it out to the Hamptons. So the 7 lakes drive/bear mountain suggestion of Ryan's may be out of reach. I also use the Motorcycle roads link that Mike kindly posted above when I am route planning somewhere new. Croc Posted July 16, 2011 Share Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) If you are going to find Bear Mountain, then run the stretch of Seven Lakes Drive from Sloatsburg to the Bear Mountain Bridge at the junction of Rt6 and Rt202. Then head north on Rt9W past West Point turnoff then take the Rt218 exit. This is a great little twisty road around the back of West Point that runs underneath Storm King Mountain. Sometimes the 1 car space will be free allow you to stop at the bluff on the river for great views. Run Rt218 out until you hit Rt9W north again. I usually loop around by heading north along river road to the I84 bridge over the Hudson River and then coming back down south on Rt9D to Bear Mountain Bridge. blubarisax Posted July 17, 2011 Share Posted July 17, 2011 I was there last Saturday and found some nice stretches of fresh smooth pavement. Lot's of slow drivers at times, so I recommend pulling over to find a nice opening in the traffic. You can make your way up route 17M through Sterling forest. Croc Posted July 17, 2011 Share Posted July 17, 2011 I had Rt 218 to myself yesterday. Lovely twisties that show off a seven so well. I enjoyed it so much that I did it again and again....
