R1 Seven
The day finally came and the car finally made it onto the track this past weekend. There will be a full write up on my site later in the week, but here are the highlights... The car is super fun right out of the box and demonstrates great potential considering I have the "slow" setup/tires under it. I found out real quick that that little 1 liter hauls the mail and I need a new rear end gear bad. Basically on cruise control for half or more of the straights. Current top speed is 120mph. >R1 Locost at VIR Full Course
yellowss7
Nice race lines! I don't think I have the cahones to do that in traffic. What type of wear and tear on the engine do you anticipate from running at near max rpms for 20 minutes at a time? Tom
R1 Seven
Thanks. I was running with my fellow instructors at the time, and we have a lot of trust with each other and keep communication up with hand signals. That makes things go a lot smoother. Most of the sports racer guys can get a couple of seasons out of an engine...and they are harder on them than I will be. I hope that I have simmilar results. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gif A replacement used engine is under $1500 though. Not too bad for that much performance. R1 Seven
Steve, This particular weekend was with NASA. There are many different clubs that run at the track in various configurations. This weekend would have been a good one for you as we had a total of four sevens there. There were three Birkins and my car. Two of the Birkins endend up being my students so I was just about sevened out by the end of the weekend. There is a great weekend coming up the first of May. The Mid-Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club has a great driving event along with the VSCCA at VIR's South Course. This is a fun and relaxing track weekend with the added bonus of getting to see many great vintage cars racing with VSCCA. There usually are some Series 1 sevens some elevens and many great old formula cars and sports racers. It would be a great way for someone to get thier feet wet at the track... stevet
Thanks, Jeff, I'll check it out. One of my best mates in England has been racing vintage Alfa's for years all over Europe. Great cars. Steve.
R1 Seven
Jeff- So then you got to meet Folis J.? He recently posted on the Se7ens.net list about his experience at VIR. Yes, Folis was one of my students this weekend. Of course calling a former Formula Atlantic racer a student seems kind of funny. We had a good time for sure. Hopefully he was not too hard on me... http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gif All three of the Birkins are coming to 7-7-7.
