BruceBowker Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Surely someone here has a GMC??? I have asked on their forum but no replies. 2001 It is a Sierra 3500. The Low Fuel light suddenly came on and gauge reads empty. The truck has 2 tanks and there is plenty of gas. Does anyone think this is just the sending unit or are these items somehow linked in with the computer? Wring all looks OK. Thanks Bruce
Ian7 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 My 1999 Chevy truck had the same issue. Was the level sensor/sender, but to my dismay I learned the sender was integral with the pump!! (and they wanted over a grand just for the part). Fixed it with electrical tape over the light and tracked the mileage between fill ups :-)
BruceBowker Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Yikes. $$$ Thanks for the help. Is the pump in the tank? I may remove it and see what is what anyhow. Bruce
BruceBowker Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 For whatever it is worth. Unhooked the battery for 15 minutes or so and everything is working again.
Kitcat Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I will try that w/my X-flow nxt time it acts up:).
WestTexasS2K Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 GM truck dashes from 1998-2004 have fuel guage issues. One of buddies is a whole sale dealer and most that come to him are broken it's usually the dash panel it's self. Glad the battery reset worked for you.
