thx, didn't know that the Scholarsip cars went through MOT's. Edit: having read the link you provided, my guess is they don't, and the car was a racer until the first MOT date shown, which was in 2006 at 7,679 miles. Certainly suggests that the race cars have odometers from day 1. (Also, google shows all MOT history only goes back to May 2005 anyway.) Appreciate the info, thx again. cheers

Hi. Why and how was the "speedometer recalibration" done? (I guess my concern is that its possible this Scholarship race car never had a speedo in it until it was converted to a road car, and perhaps has more miles than indicated?) If the referenced info from Caterham was linked in the ebay auction, it doesn't show now that the auction has ended. cheers

Can't say I disagree with the electrification aspect, nor am I against it. (Just totally on the other side of the fence against the current crop of 800hp 5000# $80k behemoths). (but I also understand why: no viable long-term business model in the USA for small low-profit-margin electric cars; dealers have always survived through their service and finance departments) That said, why is it so hard to find info on caterham's in-house electric program? a few renderings are available, and a few "just a design study" comments.

I'm just finding this 3 year old thread and wondering if anything came out of it. I'll also add I'm in the apparent minority of those who WOULD prefer a more affordable clone, rather than the incomprehensible (to me) current Caterham prices. I've had 3 (two low spec older Caterhams and a clone), all of which were a blast. Hard to think the top spec Cat's are 5x more fun, especially in normal road use. Curious, VIN SB1682 would suggest a 1960's series 2, but the 1983 build date suggests some other registration .... shenanigans? (As you say though, you got it that way ...) What makes you say "its actually a '83..." ?

Anyone else unable to visit the Caterham Cars UK website? Every time I try, including selecting "united kingdom" from the drop-down menu, it defaults back to the USA site.

Hmm, so this car was advertised 18 months ago as "$45k invested, I'll sell it for $30k"; now, that buyer is willing to let it go for $17k obo because of a lack of storage space? surely more to this than meets the eye?

In the mid-2000's I built and registered a Cat in Canada from a kit. Five years later I moved to USA, and the EPA wouldn't let me bring it in. I used that exact "I can build the identical car down there" argument, and their answer was "well, do that then". ugh.

Yes, this is off a 1600 crossflow, and has been mildly cleaned up to the fairly restrictive formula ford limits. So better than factory cast, buts lots of potential still available.
