MHKflyer52 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 This is worth watching....unreal what technology is doing today.
scannon Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Holy crap is right! A brave man for sure. When I was in college, a friend's family was in the bullet proof vest business. He brought one back after Christmas break and one evening after a few adult beverages he decided to test the vest. I produced my Ruger 10-22 rifle and proceeded to fire a .22 caliber long rifle round into his chest at about 20'. The bullet penetrated through the first 2 of many layers of kevlar and left a small bruise on his chest. We decided not to test it with my .357.
MHKflyer52 Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Hi Skip, I was once told while in the military that the flexible under-garment bullet proof vest we were issued (I was stationed at a US Embassy) would stop a 45 slug due to the surface area of the projectile deforming as it hits the vest material and that it would defiantly break some ribs and most likely knock you down and out while a small cal round would actually cause more damage due to the amount of penetration before losing its energy due to the deformation of the projectile by the vest so shooting your friend with a 22 long rifle was very chancy and he was very lucky. They also told us that a knife or ice pick type object would go through the vest as the point tends to move the fibers aside by going between them and that is why most modern vest now have some form of ceramic plate incorporated into them to my understanding. Either way it was a last resort type thing I due believe for the vest. As for sitting behind the windshield like the gent did I do not think I would due it either. If you watch the clip he actually flinches even though he knows the shots are coming and they most likely tested other windshields before he decided to sit behind that one in the clip. The gent has some stones in my belief.
pi7ot Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 The comments from the peanut gallery of the first vid were hilarious. m
jimrankin Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 The guy in the modern video may have had some stones but the woman in the old film could have applied for the "Macho Babe of the Year" award and won! Holding it in her hands with no other protection around her, out in the country and no life flight helicopter service then. Bigger stones than the rest of the crowd together.

Now that is so true and also funny. A couple of times it looks as if the glass plate actually hit her in the head with the recoil from the impact.
