Well I learned yesterday that you cannot put 225/50R15 on a 9 inch rear rim. Need at least 235 or ideally 245!

 

This tire stuff is getting difficult.

 

You just haven't tried hard enough. I'm positive that they will stretch to fit as I've personally fit a 225/45/15 on a 9" wheel for a friend with a miata. There's a whole thread here about it:

You just need to find a shop that isn't concerned about their own liability. Besides blasting with air, there are other ways to get them to bead. Look up "starter fluid tire beading" on youtube.

Maybe you are right? Maybe the various shop fitters are right? Maybe the manufacturers are right? Given the environment where I am using the car I felt it was an unacceptable risk to stretch them that far and went with a consensus view from the majority on the basis I was getting a sensible answer to my problem. Call me conservative but at least I dont look stupid with an ill-judged decision on a topic where I am happy to admit I am not an expert.

A 225-45-15 street tire will fit a 9" wide wheel very well. Even the "clubman" trackday tires, NT01/R888/RA1/A048, will be fine with that sidewall on the wheel. The Hankook RS3 and BFG Rival have been showing similar performance despite the difference in treadwear rating.
