As some may have seen, I've just purchased Marine7's fabulous Birkin. Now the fun starts with CA DMV. Any suggestions on which office in the SF East / North Bay area to work with? I'm near Berkeley.

Also, if anyone has tips on the most appropriate way to complete various pieces of paperwork, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Finally, I hope to meet some local forum members soon. I'm watching the events section for informal get-togethers :bigear:

I'd make a trip down to the Los Gatos branch, they are very familiar with sb100 and SPCNS

Thanks. I've heard Los Gatos is good but it's 2 hrs away... :nopity:

And you have the perfect car to enjoy the drive.

Berkeley to Los Gatos is more like an hour and change (unless you're headed down in rush hour traffic).

While you're down there, enjoy some of the great roads in the santa cruz mountains :)

I've also heard that walnut creek, pleasanton and santa clara DMV's are pretty good as well.

If you do the Los Gatos DMV be sure to tell the person signing in everyone that you are there for the "kit car" lady because if you just go to the regular windows they will just end up having you wait for her anyway. Hopefully she never retires because she sure was a life saver for me after the San Mateo DMV had me in a never to be completed limbo.

I went to Pleasanton today and didn't have any problems. In hand are both an SB100 Sequence Number and a temporary permit to drive through the end of October :hurray:

Next steps are: Wait for the car to arrive

CHP check/inspection

Smog check/inspection

Break/Light check/inspection

Back to DMV for plates

So you can come up to ThunderHill and play!!!!! HOD has "Derrick's Day" on 9-7 where you can do your regular track time in your car and then get full track session rides in some really fantastic race cars with a donation to their Cancer research charity. Check out the Hooked on Driving site for the details and get the link for some of the full race Ferraris and Porsches etc. that are going to be there. I've ridden in a couple of these cars and even though our cars are fun there is something about having a "few hundred more" horsepower that will get you excited. LOL.

Car is in transit.... CHP date is set for just a couple of days after it arrives. The first smog reservation available is two weeks after CHP. Should have a CA plate by the end of September! Might take a long drive down the coast in October ;-)

Only 30 min at Dublin CHP station today and I have a CA VIN number. A little scary when the officer came out with a drill and hammer to rivet the CA number to the car "somewhere"

We found a good place and he was very careful.

Next stop: smog, i.e. PCV check. I need to receive the official sequence number "certificate" before I can make an appointment.

Once that's complete, I'm back do the DMV to pick up a plate

Once you have your car registered in California via the SB100/SPCN (Special Construction) process it is exempt from ever having to go through a smog check.

The Panasports look great on your car. What sizes are the wheels and tires?

Thanks! They are 15X7 with 195/50/15s. I like the look too but am thinking about getting some lighter wheels and tires.

My budget is in recovery mode now though after fitting a new 2 1/2" exhaust and buying a Massive head and stage II cams (installing next week).

thanks for the info and how much difference did the exahust make.

I'll be taking it out tomorrow. Initial startup show the exhaust has no effect at idle. Just off idle though it's lean. I had to richen the injection tables for low RPM / low throttle. Tomorrow will bring a better look at the real impact. :jester:
