BruceBowker Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Are Kumho tires OK? Found some online. Any other suggestions for 165/70 R14? Need these for a Suzuki here on Bonaire. Tire Rack has no tires this size. Thanks Bruce
turboeric Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 (edited) I've used both the Kumho XS and the SPT with good success (both are high performance summer tires) on my turbo Miata. Probably don't last as long as some of the bigger names, but they gripped and were inexpensive. There's lots of choice in a 175/70x14. Only 0.5 inches difference in diameter. Croc Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Need these for a Suzuki here on Bonaire. Tire I am sure the Suzuki has bags of handling ability to justify sports tires on Bonaire? Will they help you dodge goats better? :jester:
BruceBowker Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Dodging donkeys!! They are for one of my employee's cars. Perhaps a 175 would be Ok. Just need something better than what is commonly available here which is usually a tire name no one has ever heard at 3 times the price and falls apart within a few miles. Comments welcome - except from MIKE!!!
scannon Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Its the wild donkeys you have to worry about on Bonaire. I really liked the Kumho 710 track tires I had a few years ago but long life was not their strong suit.
BruceBowker Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 (edited) Need some help. If the tire is a 175/70 R14 as opposed to a 165/70 R14 - as suggested only 0.5 inch larger in diameter - would a 175/65 make it closer to what is should be ? I can't remember my tire facts. As I think more about this, the 175 is the diameter and that would not change. Just ratio of width to sidewall, correct? Edited January 21, 2013 by BruceBowker

scannon Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Here's a handy tire size calculator/comparator compliments of Miata.net. At the bottom of the page is a field where you can enter multiple tire sizes and get a chart of how they stack up. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
