Fejer 7

Hello, Recently purchased the Fejer 7 kit from Vanc Isl. Car was built in 1987 but never assembled. Came with full body work and most parts to complete including Toyota 2tc engine and 5 speed transmisson. I thought it would be just a matter of assembly but there is a fair amount of engineering/fabricating required. Also some of the parts require restoration due to sitting for 25 years. It may be wiser to start with a different engine (Miata?) as parts for the Toyota are hard to find. Any way looking for someone in the Lower Mainland of BC to assist with project, I have the space, some time/tools and limited abilities but need a mentor/partner guide me through the areas I'm not skilled in. May also be interested if someone wants to take over the project.

If I was still living on the coast, I'd help for sure! As it is, I am sure someone will come along, but it tends to be a solitary process, because really, not many people know what they are doing when it comes to these types of cars. Essentially, you take one step at a time (like wiring), and before you know it, you're mostly there. The last 5% takes 95% of the time, however. If you truly get stumped, I am sure David S-P would finish it for you. He's in Chemainus, on the Island.

Thanks for the positive support. It's important to know when you're in over your head and I think I am on this one. I have also advertised locally and had a fair amount of interest, so maybe someone will take the car on, it's a shame it has sat this long and not been enjoyed.

At the same time, I've continued to research and would love some feedback on what engine/transmission members would recommend. The 2TC it came would needs a rebuild and parts are hard to find, plus there are lots of newer more exciting choices.

Congratulation on your purchase, I did see it advertised and thought it might be a bit of a challenge.

There are a few locost builders in the lower mainland, try posting on the Locost USA forum also as there may be someone close that could help.

hi fbracer

I'm in Kamloops with a Fejer as well.

If you went with a Newer Toyota 4AGE engine it will most likely bolt up to the T50 transmission that you probably have.

The motor mounts may have to change slightly.

If the 2t engine is still runable I would go with it for now. The are reliable and bullet proof.

The 2Tc is a die hard engine. I would bet that doing a valve job would be all that is needed to refresh the motor. If you go the 4AGE route, you may also need a bell housing if your

T-50 is older then 1983. A 1983-87 year trans should bolt right up to a 4AGE. You will also have to section the intake manifold on the 4AGE to be able to it fit under the hood and possibly the oil filler neck on the cam cover. Dave W

Dave is correct on the bell housing as I replaced my older T-50 with the newer T-50 and the only difference is that the front input shaft bearing was upgraded from a ball bearing to a roller bearing. The outer race shell diameter in the roller bearing is larger and therefore I had to have the bell housing machined to accept the larger diameter. My bell housing was from the 2TG which should be the same as the 2T or 2TC.

The 4AGE may have to be mounted on a slight angle, dipped to the left for the oil filler to clear the bonnet. My 2TG is mounted this way and I have had no problems. Also with mine the engine has to mount on an angle for the carbs to clear the frame work. I think the engines are originally mounted on a slight angle.

There are all kinds of parts and upgrades for the 4AGE. Find someone who knows these engines well as there is differences between them for HP, pollution junk etc.. I believe the Black Top is the one to look for.

I also have a 4AGE bell housing if anybody needs it.

There is also USA7s member that is in North Vancouver that runs the 2TC in his Fejer.

Hi fbracer, I've emailed with you about your car (I'm Chad from Ontario). My Fejer has a Twin side draft carb'd 2T engine, 3tcgarage.com is great for all kind of old toyota engine info/know how. There can find links to service manuals, and part numbers. Unless your looking to get caught up in an arms race for more power which will be costly and time consuming, use the current motor, get out and have some fun.

P.S. If I had the money and time I would have more power though....

Just joined this forum and found this thread.

Originally the Fejer was built in Newmarket, Ontario back in the mid '80s. I used to visit there and knew George Fejer. He and his brother's claim to fame was that they (supposedly) built Steve McQueens race cars and I think modified the Mustang in "Bullitt" (he did have pictures on the wall of the brothers and Steve and the cars).

If your kit came with doors, you can thank me, 'cause George borrowed mine to pattern them.

I say, go ahead and put it together yourself. I'm sure we can all help along the way and we even have a couple (ihckb2 and Chad from Ontario) as a references. In the end you'll be glad you did. I've been restoring mine since yours was new and have learned to do so much.
