MBEARDEN
The wife has ok'ed a family trip to Pebble Beach in August. A friend and his wife are going also. I have noticed that several of you seem to be regular visitors. I assume that lodging is an issue. We are leaning toward maybe a day at the concours and two days at the races. Any thoughts as far as lodging or any other things to do or see?
supersportsp
Lodging is pretty costly for that weekend. They really jack up the rates. If you know you are going now, start looking for deals and get it locked up. I stayed at the same hotel as I did in Monterey a week after the event when I was passing back through. The nightly rate was literally half what it had been for the historics/pebble beach.

Gives you a slight discount to the races but more importantly gives you cheap parking in the corrals right off T2. I'll post it on here when the thing goes live. If all you want to do is see the cars and watch them on track (practice not race) I'd suggest going for the Pre-Historics which are the weekend before the main event and are much lower key. Very small crowds mean that you can spend as long as you like checking out individual cars but you wont have any of the star drivers/owners around. JohnCh
If you plan to stay in Monterey, expect to pay about $280+ for what is normally a $90-$100 room, also most places have a 3 night minimum stay requirement that weekend. Things get cheaper though as you move to the outlying towns such as Salinas. Best thing to do is get on the phone now and see what's available. Most of the popular places (i.e great location, or reasonable rates) sell out by this time, so you are definitely not too early. I've heard from some people who have showed up in Monterey without a reservation and have scored pretty good deals on last minute cancellations. Might be an option if you aren't very risk adverse. For what it’s worth, I’ve stayed in Salinas and in Monterey. Saving hundreds of dollars was great, but the stop & go traffic leading back to Salinas each night got old pretty quickly. -John
scannon
We stayed in Marina up the coast about 20 miles from Monterey. Getting in and out of Monterey was never a problem and there is a back road to Laguna Seca that avoids the traffic until you get to the track. It worked out well and IIRC we paid about $110 per night at http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/best-western-beach-dunes-inn.en-us.html?aid=336408;label=marina-kjgHqc1X1Eg4ofUveQhOGwS25829035307%3Apl%3Ata%3Ap15%3Ap2%3Aac%3Aap1s1%3Anes;sid=9673d95fd34d9c6731d1cc51e18438cd;dcid=1;srfid=89e2699bdf683094e1cbbbe3722bff62a852e39fX1. rnr
The historics have changed their procedures and are no longer allowing clubs to organize the tickets sales and corrals. Instead you have to buy them direct from SCRAMP. More info at http://www.gglotus.org/ggshop/ggcorral.htm
