Kitcat Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Whist being dynoed yesterday my Birkin's alternator died. We tried putting in a stock Ford Focus alternator but it was way too big. Any ideas on what alternator Birkin uses on its Duratecs? (Call to Texas Motor Works has not been answered). Response on Yahoo Birkin forum was-take it to a Autozone and see what fits. Agreed, but was wondering if anyone knew in advance so I cld call to see if they had one in stock.
coffee break Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Do you have local shop that rebuilds alternators?
JeffersonRaley Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 KitKat - Did you ever find an answer for this? My alt just died today.
Kitcat Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) JR: Don't recall for sure but think I ordered a replacement thru Dick Brink, who was a Birkin dealer of sorts back then and "built" my car. He still has lottsa parts and is knowledgeable, so mite know where to find one, if he doesn't have one. There is also a Birkin group on Yahoo and they are v helpful (birkinowners@yahoogroups.com). Maybe join/post? Edited November 25, 2014 by Kitcat
ropaSeven Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Check with Tom Carlin in Eagle, Colorado. Birkin Direct!! Tom is the importer/distributor for Birkin in USA now.
JeffersonRaley Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Thanks KitKat and ropaSeven. I ended up buying one from Dick since he still has them in stock and is close to me. The new alternator is on the car and I should be able to do some more testing at Harris Hill Road this weekend.
