I have a Valeo alternator in my '91 Caterham with 1700 crossflow. It is time to rebuild the alternator but thought I would ask first if anyone has found a bolt in replacement new alternator as the Valeo is no longer available.

Rebuilding a 20 year old alternator is of course the easy option but I would like to put a new one in if I can.

I replaced the alternator on my Crossflow about 3 years ago. I believe it's a Bosch, and is essentially the same size as what I had. It definitely does fit the categorization of "smaller". :)

I'll get the specfic model info tonight and post it here.

Thanks Steve, was it a "bolt in" or did you have to fab brackets?

Did the terminals need to be re-wired?

Total "bolt in" with no re-wire. I took it to a local place to be rebuilt (the shaft had a huge amount of vertical movement), and they basically said forget it (after they took it all apart), they happened to have a new replacement unit.

Well, I think it's a Bosch. Can't find the word "Bosch" anywhere on it, nor on the receipt from it's purchase. But the numbers are:

0 120 488 176

And if you Google "Bosch" and that number, it returns an alternator. Interestingly, the Bosch website did not match on the parts search using that number.

The main body is roughly 5" in diameter.

Hope this helps.

It could be a 1) part no. 2) assembly no. or 3) subassembly no.

I guess it depends on where the number is located.

Good luck!

I have the exact car, do you find a replacement for the /Valeo Alternator, with same mount and wiring set up. Can you tell me make, model part no, whatever you can.

Thanks
