There was a long discussion on blatchat about how some found factory ford hypoid oil quieter than others.

Unfortunately the particular part # doesn't seem to be available in the USA. Has anyone experience with this oil or where it may be found? My differential is reasonably quiet except for a consistent whine at 41-44 mph.

Another question - I have a 1998 De dion chassis, can anyone give me the details on the differential? (4:10 gears I think) what make? limited slip?

Thanks

You most likely have a sierra diff, case, and that year the LSD would have been the AP Surtrac. you didn't say weather you had the 5 speed or the six speed gearbox, but the usual gearing would have been either the 3.92 or the 3.62 ratios.

My 2000 six speed has the 3.62. No overdrive with the six speed, so the 3.62 was more common on those. My guess if you have a 5 speed is the 3.92 ratio. LSD was an additional option.

Here are a couple of threads from Blatchat that may help you.
