Calgary floods

I was just looking at the damage in Calgary from the incredible flooding on the Bow river and Elbow river. I hope all USA7s members are high and dry and out of the danger areas.

Thanks for your concern Mike, we are in Nanton, south of Calgary, high and dry thank goodness, High River is just North of us and the whole town has been evacuated. They are having a real rough time.

I'd like to echo lancy's thanks for the concern. I am in Calgary but fortunate enough to be on the highest ground within eyeshot.

I have stayed home today as my workplace very early in the morning decided the roads were best left to emergency services, some of whom have been working for 23+ hours straight.

Big thanks to those working to keep people safe, and I hope all the other members of our community stay dry.

Croc,

Thanks for you concern. I am not home as I am working 300km (200 miles) north in Edmonton. I have only seen photo's of the catastrophe that is happening in Calgary.

Just had a call from the missus, she is concerned about flooding outside our house (the drain is blocked). I told her if we get flooded where we live we had better build an ark as we live about a 1000ft above the river.

I do not personally know of any 7 owners that live on the flood plains.

My thoughts are with all those that are being displaced by the water.

Steve,

If the contractor could ever finish the project I could get home. I was in Houston last week for model review for the next project already.

I am hoping I will put my Stalker back together July long weekend. I have installed the Clevite HX crank bearings for better oil flow, the low profile oil pan which holds 8qts, reconfigured my 3rd brake light, added the safety chain brackets for tow bar, installed the new Gaz shocks with heavier springs (just need to set adjustment), I'm in the process of installing my new seats (LK Composites) then I can reassemble.

Have you completed you mods?

Sorry to hear of the devastating floods in Alberta. It's a beautiful province, particularly in many of the areas that have been most heavily hit. Dare I say that was the power of Mother Nature that formed such breath-taking beauty in the first place and drew those hearty souls to her. Bless you all and may your families and friends (and your sevens) be safe and happy for years to come.

Good to hear everyone is safe.

Wow - the photos coming out on the web are incredible. Downtown flooded. Cranmore devastated. A huge amount of damage and it will take a long time to put back together.

Worse than the time will be the uninsured losses: very few houses will be insured as "overland flooding" coverage is rare in Canada. The flooding from 2005 is still being fought through the courts, hardly anyone has yet seen any cost recovery. And the Alberta government has a cap on disaster assistance that won't pay for most houses let alone the contents

And here was me thinking that Canada had to have a better flood insurance program/concept than the US arrangement where you have to pay the premiums but get screw all back when Hurricane Sandy decides to level your home. :(

I guess it is "better" in a way that people know up front they are not insured. I read the risk is just too high for an insurance to offer reasonable rates. The strange thing is however, even with such sh!t sure to happen, the government allows or promotes building in the flood planes (or right next to the beach). That said, we build here in SoCal on any earthquake fault we can find plus the ones we don't know about.
