Kitcat
Any one have one, any recomendations? Prodigy has a couple that look interesting. The controller bolts to trailer tongue, trailer elec plugs into it and the contoller then plugs into tow vehicle's elec recepticle below bumper (where trailer elec cord ususally plugs in). All operated via a bluetooth remote that plugs into AC in cabin for its power. No splicing of harnesses etc. Supposed to offer progressive braking as needed. Anyone try this or other brake contollers that you are happy/unhappy with?
DeanG
I have a hard wired controller from http://www.tekonsha.com the maker of Prodigy. After a few years my first controller failed. The second Voyager has been working fine for a year. A local trailer shop put it in for me.
bball7754
Mike - I use the Prodigy RF and it's worked well. The Volvo tow package came with a 3-prong connection. By using the Prodigy, I was able to just have a power line run directly from the battery and switch the 3-way to a 5-way. Didn't have to splice into the harness, which I understand can make the computerized systems unhappy. Plus, no ugly brake controller in the car that's only used 1% of the time. scannon
I also have a Tekonsha. It has been on three different tow vehicles over the last six years with no problems. They have plug in harnesses for almost all tow vehicles, no extra wiring required if your tow vehicle already has a tow package with the 7 pin connector at the back. I've installed them all myself. Kitcat
Yes, I have the 7 pin connector factory tow pkg so this "should" be easy.
blubarisax
I also have the Prodigy RF. It's easy to use and works flawlessly.
Klasik-69
Yes, I have the 7 pin connector factory tow pkg so this "should" be easy. If you have the 7 pin factory connector, then your vehicle is already wired to accomodate the brake controller. Tekonsha is the most common. Having it under the dash is better for the brake controller than one that sits outside. Out of the weather and out of grabby little hands too. I use the Tekonsha in the Tahoe. My Ford F-150 has the built in controller and electronic sway control too, which makes towing a whole lot easier.
