HossMan Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Pardon my ignorance, I have little to none mechanical knowledge. I just know the cars I like and the engines I like! :auto: I was wondering if an AE86 engine would fit in a Caterham. I've heard that my car's engine (NC2 MX-5) can fit in a standard chassis with some slight modifications. I know the Duratecs are great, but what have you guys put in your Sevens? What have you considered putting in your Sevens? (Minus Stalkers, not trying to hate :leaving:) Thank you for your responses! :seeya:
xcarguy Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) Well :toetap05: minus the Stalker I NOW own with its ???, I owned a Birkin with a Duratec. Now . . . About my Stalker . . . :jester: Edited September 8, 2013 by xcarguy
Oscar Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I like the idea of a 10k RPM 4AGE engine in a Caterham, or a nissan CA18DET. But i think I like those engines because I am nostalgic of my "tuner" days. I don't think I would want the headache associated with ordering repair parts from Japan. My stress free engine set up would be an engine that had parts readily available at the local dealer and modern engineering for trouble free operation and performance. if you google 4AGE seven you should find a pretty blue car from NZ, it might even link back to this site (I cant remember).
SkinnyG Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I have a bluetop 4AGE in my Locost 7. If I were to do it over, I would have just bought a JDM blacktop or silvertop and NOT rebuilt mine. It would have been cheaper, and have more power. However, since I am doing this all again, Locost 7 #2 has a Duratec in the shed. Bigger, better, cheaper, easier to replace, and a "current" and thriving aftermarket.
timax Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I have a Silver top in my 7. Not a caterham but close in size. Click on my link below for pics. You may have to scroll down a bit. Tim
Oscar Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Timax your pics are awesome. I have your tumblr saved as a favorite.
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I'm also a fan of the 4ag. Although it doesn't make as much power as a duratec, it sounds fantastic - especially with ITB's.
cs3tcr Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) I had a small port 4AG in my old S2/3 sized chassis. The T50 gearbox is a little bulky in the bellhousing department, but it fits with some mods to the chassis (luckily i fitted the lump before skinning the chassis).
