WOW, what a great four days it has been. The seventh annual Midwest Se7ens Gathering is history now and it made history, too. This was the largest gathering we have ever had with thirteen 7’s showing up. The cars that were there were five Locosts, four Stalkers, one Caterham, one Westfield, one RM8, and one CMC 15. Rounding out the cars showing up were one Corvette, one very rare hard top Lotus Élan with RHD, one 1969 Jaguar XKE, one Lotus Esprit, and a Subaru BRZ. What a mix!!! It was even an international event with Chris Boettcher from Canada bringing his brand new Miata powered Locost down for its shake down. It never missed a beat. Great build, Chris. Our host hotel was the Wagon Wheel Motel, which is a restored Route 66 Roadhouse. Thursday afternoon’s blat had to be cut short because of lack of time, but we were able to squeeze in a very informative wine tour at the St. James Winery and then had a nice meal at a fancy restaurant called Sybill’s in St. James, MO. Friday we went on our northern route thru Linn, Frankenstein, and Hermann, MO. In Hermann we ate at the Wurst Haus which had wonderful German sausages. From there we let everyone go there own way back to the motel where the local newspaper came by for a photo shoot and interviews with a few of our participants. That evening we had dinner at one of Cuba’s newest restaurants, Fat Jacks, which is a steak house. Saturday started out rather dicey. The weather gods were not cooperating with us. There was a big storm front bearing down on us right at our start time of 9am, so we delayed the start until 10am. The storm did not actually arrive until 10am, but by 10:30 it was moving out, so we decided to start on our southern route. We drove to Salem, MO and had lunch at the Horseshoe Saloon. From there we went on to finish our best day of driving yet. High speed sweepers, up and down hills and valleys, and very little traffic. It did not rain on us until the last 30 miles. Then it decided to let us have it, but we slogged on to finish a great day of driving. While we were driving our southern route, one of the towns we went through on Friday’s northern route was hit by a tornado. We lucked out there. We had a great dinner at Missouri Hick BBQ. On Sunday, everyone said their goodbyes and started looking forward to repeating this all over again next year at a location to be announced very soon. The event was not without its mechanical problems. Cliff Flath fried an alternator, which in turn took out a fan belt and idler pulley; Bob Henson broke a bolt holding his cylinder head on; Julian had a vacuum hose come off; and Wendel broke an alternator cable. Luckily there was nothing major. So to Chris Reinke who helped set this event up and all the people who came we say “Thank You” from the bottom of our hearts, Russ and Jane

PS: Pictures are coming soon.

Great job! Got to love anytime that many 7's get together. All those crazy people in one place:jester: You've laid down a good challenge. We'll see if the East Coast guys can match your success. :flag: Tom
