GunshipDriver
Greetings! So I have a 2.2 with low miles and have been wondering if I should invest in a shortened oil pan? Also, should I invest in one that is baffled? I plan on primarily driving this on Sundays on the street and occasionally autocross it or track it once a month or every other month... WestTexasS2K
Gunship I do not recommend a shortened oil pan. It decreases the oil level which is very important at high rpm 8-9k rpm the oil pump will pump the pan dry in less than 6 seconds. If you decrease the oil volume by a quart then you run the risk of running dry in a long high rpm corner. Under your proposed use I think a stock pan will work just fine. If you plan on track use with slicks then a baffled pan is suggested. I prefer ENDYN's http://www.theoldone.com oil pan baffle. He usually has a few spare pans that he will do on exchange basis. The good news is the pan can be pulled in the car in about 15 min. I recommend using the Honda Bond gasket maker for bolting the pan back on. Mondo
This is what I got... just to be safe http://www.nengun.com/toda/anti-g-force-oil-pan
WestTexasS2K
That is almost identical to Endyns except theirs is 195.00 instead of 400.00. They use your old pan clean and weld the new baffle in your pan.
NVP66S
There's a market for shortened/widened Mazda pans. The Westfield installation gives 3 inches ground clearance and I know of 2 people trying to get custom made pans that have another inch of ground clearance for street use. Anybody know of such a thing on the market, or an enterprising company that wants to supply these?
Manshoon11
I thought it had factory baffling?
WestTexasS2K
No factory baffles in the S2000
WestTexasS2K
NVP66S A shortened wider pan is possible the issue I see is the oil pump pickup. The Honda oil pump is one piece cast aluminum. It doesn't have a pickup tube. I've seen some modified that looked a little scary IMO. I'm sure a good machinist could do it. The oil pump is a bear to get out without disassembling the front of the engine.
Mondo
Hey Loren, Looked at their web page (didn't find the oil pan)... is that the place that was building you a motor? Any progress?
WestTexasS2K
It's not listed on the website. He hasn't updated in years but he does them. He has done two for me before. Motor is coming along Nissan has had him tied down nearly a year preparing cylinder heads for Austraila super car series. He is back on mine now from what I'm told. I go up every six months to check on things. It has been a bit frustrating for sure. He has stated he will throw in a set of ITBs and tune and Ecu free of charge for the delay.
