coffee break
The inch seems to be a standard for some stuff. I got to pondering this as I was grabbing some sockets out of the tool box. Socket drive sizes are 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and up". What does the guy in Europe or Japan find in his tool box. Then there are rim sizes, in inches also. Anyone know the history? :bigear:
MightyMike
My German socket set has 1/4" and 3/8" drive sockets.
NVP66S
Tires and spark plugs are the same strange mixture the world around. My WF is wearing 205/50-15 tires where 205 is mm wide and 15 is inches wheel diameter. Spark plugs are 10 or 14 mm thread and inch wrenching. I guess most of it is historical and international SAE standards. But leave it to a US government agency to measure exhaust emissions in grams/mile. DeanG
It is a crazy mixed up world. Paper weight is measured in grams per sq. yard.
