Car and Driver - Aug '07

Recommended Posts

Just saw a picture of Loren's car on their One Lap coverage (I think page 138)

On a seperate note, the new Z06 crushed all contestants at VIR (Page 52), including the GT3 (despite much softer compound tires on the GT3), 911 Turbo, and the Extige S. A little plug for my vette bros :D

Nice article. They are trying to imitate "Evo" magazine's top car tests. Most cars that Evo test end up at the same track. Currently the Caterham 400 is in 2nd out of many cars on the Evo list. I am waiting for C & D to test the CSR w/ the 2.3 litre Duratec putting out 260 hp-the 'Vette's going down!:).

A fellow who asked for a ride in my turbo Miata came by yesterday. After the ride/drive in the Miata I offered him a ride in my Caterham. I think he was impressed.

He mentioned that he ran the One Lap with a 500 hp Audi S4 wagon. He couldn't say enough good things about Loren and his car. He couldn't believe they drove through all that bad weather without a top or windshield.

C&D tested the 260 CSR over a year ago.

Hey I remember that S4 wagon and the driver he was very nice his name espaces me though. His wagon was pretty fast but I guess most 1 lap cars are on quick side. I did finally find the Aug issue. Not a mention in there but we had a picture anyway. I was a little disappointed that they talked about all the heroics of people putting clutches and fuel filters in but not a mention of us swapping out 3 diffs and driving 500 miles out of the way to do it. Oh well that is what happens when you are not in the top 10. Next year we will be.

His name is Josh Wyte. Ater the rides in my cars, he took me for a short demo of the S4's acceleration. Very impressive. 500hp and 550 lb ft will do that for you even in a heavy car like the S4. It felt similar to a ride I had in an SRT-8 Jeep Grand Wagoneer awhile back.

Blue Devil is coming soon :reddevil:

Current rumors are 650 hp, 2900 lbs.

That's Enzo territory (Enzo is something like 660 hp, 3200 lbs if I'm not mistaken)

Blue Devil being a nick name for a monster Vette under development at Chevrolet.

:yesnod:

Hopefully they can also add massive downforce.

The current Z ran 7:40 at the ring in '06. That car can really fly (picture is from that run)

This is from an interview with Jan Magnuson, who drives for Chevy in the LeMans series, and set the 7:40 time:

"The photo is taken at Flugplatz. I´m going 240-250 km/h at full throttle in 4th gear and the car is actually jumping twice: After the first jump it lands so hard that it takes off again, as you can see in the second picture. As it lands the second time I have to take a sharp right immediately after.

The car is a standard car with street setup - had it been my racer it would hardly have left the tarmac. At NBR the street car reaches 295 km/h on the long straight in 5th gear (6th gear is an overgear for saving gasoline). At NBR there are no run-off areas like other tracks,. You simply have to stay on the track. When you are halfway around the 20 km, you think it´s a good thing there are only half as many places left you risk running off the track" Jan says.
