Thanks Bob, I had found that color chart and it explained things some. A explanation of colors used and how/what info is provided that is typically present on a diagram would have made things much easier! Maybe I'm expecting to much from Caterham.
-
Thank you Dave, I have a Miata, so I'm looking for the main diagram only. I have a 1995 diagram and current diagram, there are differences between them so I would be interested in yours.
-
I was wrong, there are colors - they just don't match my car!
-
I have the diagram from the current online assembly manual, it's a little vague and shows no wire colors. Are there any others? Thanks

That's them, didn't realize the pads were small enough to come out the top, was thinking the bottom. Now if I can get them to stop rattling.
-
Thank You for the reply. The rear calipers are AP Racing and there is a hard fluid lines to them, it doesn't look like the pads will come out without removing the caliper from the bracket and brake line - am I wrong on this? Seems like it should be a quicker change out on racing calipers.

Thank You - valuable information!

Something to do over the winter.

Yes that's what it sounds like to me. Is the sender something that is installed by the kit builder? Thanks

This is a 1997 Sprint DeDion kit. Filled my tank for the first time and gained a loud rattle. Sounds like the float is hitting the tank, gradually less and once down to 5/8 tank it's gone. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks

Thank You for the reply. The seats have a lift out bottom so I assume they are S-type? I see "1/2" head rests here http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=3854 Are they what works? That bar looks awful hard!

Just purchased a 1997 Super Sprint DeDion, took several days to realize the "rotating clicking" sound I hear is the rear brake pads rattling, the noise stops when the pedal is depressed. Is there any cure for this? Thanks
-
Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if there are interference issues with headrests and roll bars? I just bought a 1997 super Sprint with leather seats, the PO left the headrests off (and lost them). The roll bar has a single diagonal, do they not fit with this bar? Thanks

Is anyone able to change the title of this thread to reflect the content? "Caterham MA registration questions" Thanks
-
Croc- Sorry I hadn't replied to your well thought out post - been more than a little preoccupied. " my question is whether the MA DMV actually inspects for this stuff thereby enforcing the EPA rule literally or partially? " No one knows how it will be enforced, they do have a dyno. The engine is 1996 Miata, the OBD11 port is missing = automatic fail MA only requires emissions testing of cars newer than 15 years - this year 1997 is not tested. So my car is not tested next year or if the engine year (1996) it would not be tested now. Here is the rub, as a "replica" it will not be treated like a regular car and will be sent to the state emissions center for the above unknown enforcement, not passed like a regular car. Local inspectors only do what the computer tells them to do when your info is plugged in - that's what it will tell them. The implication is it will have to meet the "configuration" standard at that point and then never be tested again - or maybe not, once again no one knows. rx7locost - I think the "guy" is the supervisor, my rep is looking into it for me but I don't think I'm going to be successful in avoiding the emissions requirement.
-
rx7locost - once again I completely agree, it makes no sense. You can't sell a car that hasn't been blessed? What was the point of the grandfathering, to stop from banning existing owners cars? I specifically asked about buying a out of state car before. Now he's saying only cars that were owned/titled before the deadline by me. I asked 6 weeks after the deadline - how could I buy and title before the deadline at that point? Another insult - a Composite title in Conn. is exempt, MA doesn't care. I put a hold on the title/registration in case that would limit my options.
-
Just been told it is not exempt - by the same guy in DOT that prior to my buying it, told me it would be----------

Just dropped off the paperwork for the first hurtle at my insurance agent, the "runner" goes to the RMV tomorrow for Title and registration. Then I have to get the Emissions waiver. The procedure described here in 2011, http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/archive/index.php/t-1677.html? I believe to be accurate with the exception of "The downside is that if you get caught after April 2012, your car will not be allowed on the road until it is emissions legal." I have confirmed with the DOT that all cars legally titled and registered prior to 4/30/2012 are grandfathered exempt. I choose a 1963 Lotus 7 as the description, doubt they care at all beyond 1998 Replica.

RX7locost -Yes in my case (with the Conn Title) that is exactly how I see it in theory, I am about to find out In practice.
-
It's complicated but it is the EPA standards MA has adopted. The emissions standards are set by the engine used and must be in the original configuration that the engine was certified. ( new stock emission equipment, trans, rear end+tire gear ratio etc.) Seems the only way would to use a early engine that required minimum standards. http://www.epa.gov/oms/imports/kitcar.htm
-
"Kit Cars" are now titled as "Replicas" in MA (they use the EPA definition of "Kit car"). Those titled/registered before 4/30/2012 are grandfathered "emissions exempt" those titled after must meet emissions standards that in my opinion (if held to the letter of the law) won't be possible with a Seven.

When I emailed Caterham USA looking for help/info on dealing with the requirements I was told all Caterhams sold in the USA are sold as components only, Engine and transmission supplied by "others". I may be wrong but I think this applies to Lotus Sevens also sold in the USA (maybe somebody can confirm/deny) This by the EPA's definitions classify them as "kit cars", they are not certified cars in the USA.

I was looking at this ad/car, found it had been discussed on this site when it sold on eBay last fall and found this link which provides info/details on the car the current owner could not. http://1967lotus7forsale.com/details.html

At the moment new rims are not in the picture.

Thanks bball7754, you give me hope. I have since learned the Conn. Title process is the same as the new MA's. By rights they should accept it with no issue, I don't know if there is a snag in "composite" vs "replica" description as MA has no "composite" and it is a "replica" by their standard.
