Interested in Birkin S3 Weather Kit (Top and Doors)
sdaddy posted a topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
To extend the comfortable driving season to 365 days, I'm interested in finding a used top and doors for an '02 Birkin S3 in good condition. Willing to provide a new, "in the box" Birkini kit as a partial trade. -
I've been having a ball driving my new to me Birkin ('02 with a black top Zetec) in a way that helps the Emerald (K3) ECU "learn" what adjustments are needed to the injection map All of a sudden today though the PC doesn't see the ECU. I've made the connection many times over the last couple of weeks with the standard Emerald cable hooked to a USB adaptor. My PC detects the USB in the "com port" but there is no communication... Before I start digging into the wiring, any ideas? :bigear:

KiwiBirkin, Do you know if changing the wheel boss is a difficult operation? :bigear:

Only 30 min at Dublin CHP station today and I have a CA VIN number. A little scary when the officer came out with a drill and hammer to rivet the CA number to the car "somewhere" We found a good place and he was very careful. Next stop: smog, i.e. PCV check. I need to receive the official sequence number "certificate" before I can make an appointment. Once that's complete, I'm back do the DMV to pick up a plate  -
Thanks for the comments :hurray: While my garage isn't level, I have installed a lift which is. I "engineered" some mounts for the scales so there's no car jacking going on ;-) Hopefully the pictures provide a good idea of what I did. Rolling the car on and off the scale was very easy. With an indicated 3/4 of a tank, the Birkin "as delivered" weighs 1290.6 lbs Details are: Driver front: 328.5 Driver rear: 333.1 Passenger front: 300.5 Passenger rear: 328.5 (same as driver front)

We'll see once the car arrives. I suspect the display is only active for about one min. I plan to capture the weight from each corner, make adjustments, and repeat as needed. Not the fastest, but it will be an almost one-time exercise. All four scales were only $60. PS, The "better half" was a little offended at 400 lb capacity bathroom scales showing up at our front door...
-
Guess who's ready to check some weights The scales are here.... now just need the car :toetap05: If anyone has suggestions on making some basic corner weight adjustments to a Birkin Series 3 with AVO shocks, please let me know. :bigear: Once the weights are set, next step is confirming / final adjustments to alignment...

As of 9/3 it's still posted...

Car is in transit.... CHP date is set for just a couple of days after it arrives. The first smog reservation available is two weeks after CHP. Should have a CA plate by the end of September! Might take a long drive down the coast in October ;-) -
Thanks. It sounds like '60 is better than '66? If so, that's the rout I'll take.:driving:
-
I will be going through the same process in CA shortly and am planning to designate '66. I don't know the details but believe if it much later than this, there are some additional smog requirements. Any earlier doesn't matter in terms of smog, i.e. a PCV system is required even for late '50s / early '60s cars.
-
Hi Nick O'Teen, I will be going through the smog inspection process in the next few weeks. What engine is in your car? Any info you can provide will be very helpful in making sure I have no PCV issues with my Zetec.

I went to Pleasanton today and didn't have any problems. In hand are both an SB100 Sequence Number and a temporary permit to drive through the end of October :hurray: Next steps are: Wait for the car to arrive  CHP check/inspection Smog check/inspection Break/Light check/inspection Back to DMV for plates -
I believe the "drying" temperature is around 400F. Shouldn't be hot enough to hurt the rim.

The car looks the same as the one posted at http://1967lotus7forsale.com/index.html and has been on several Bay Area Craigslist boards over the last month or so...

As some may have seen, I've just purchased Marine7's fabulous Birkin. Now the fun starts with CA DMV. Any suggestions on which office in the SF East / North Bay area to work with? I'm near Berkeley. Also, if anyone has tips on the most appropriate way to complete various pieces of paperwork, feel free to shoot me a PM. Finally, I hope to meet some local forum members soon. I'm watching the events section for informal get-togethers :bigear: -
Thanks. I'm looking forward to being an an active participant / contributor to the forum!

At least the auction winner is a forum member... me Jason is fabulous to work with! Best wishes to him on future projects. I can't wait for the transport truck to roll up in a week or two  For registration, I tried calling DMV several times today to see if any of the 2012 sequence numbers were available. After one call being on hold for 45 min (literally) they hung up on me. Fingers crossed that I don't have to wait until January to make it "legal".

At the rate bidding is going, it will be up to the BIN before the weekend is over.
-
Same here. Good news for Marine7, the bidding has started very strong. Maybe the "Buy it Now" should have been higher... It's a gorgeous car.
-
Good luck with the sale too. I'm bidding and may be forced to find out first hand about the California registration process...
-
I've seen the car under the second link on eBay before. Didn't reach reserve. Got into the low $20's as I recall....
-
Thanks. Did you have to go through the CA process as if you assembled the car yourself?
