  1. Frankn7 is still tucked away in my trailer waiting for resurrection Maybe one year I'll have time to piece it back together. It's been 2 or 3 years now since I bought it from Mazda. Mazda has been working on an R1 powered Caterham that he's been threatening to finish, but has yet to come through on that :jester:
  2. Deteriorating foam is a common issue in the 4x4 racing world. A new product on the market that has demonstrated its superiority to foam in this regard are these plastic baffles available from all-tech motorsports. http://www.alltechmotorsports.com/ They are just round cylinders made out of some type of plastic that is unaffected by today's fuels. They're being run with great success in many offroad race cars, so I'd imagine our road cars would benefit from them as well. I don't have any affiliation with Wayne at All-tech, I'm just a believer in his products.
  3. At the end of the video, I believe "Horas de Trabajos" = Hours of work = 1220 That's 30.5 40-hour weeks :ack:
  4. It it indeed. Needs a new chassis and front end. Planning to take a few liberties with the chassis design when I redo it, so I'm planning things out carefully. Hope to make some real progress after the holidays.
  5. Good luck beating Radial's prices, especially on Toyo's. Also, if you mention that you're in a car club they usually knock another couple bucks off($10/tire last time I was in a month or so ago). The key to getting in and out quickly is to be first in line on a weekday, OR just drop your tires/wheels off and pick them up later. Sam and Paul are good people and I will recommend them to anyone and everyone in the greater DC area. You're lucky since they're in your neighborhood.
  6. An icon in the 4-wheeling world wrecked pretty bad. Luckily walked away with just some bumps and bruises. He was wearing a neck restraint. YouTube - ‪Roger Lovell Pikes Peak Crash‬‏ http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=605476&stc=1&d=1309194716
  7. Good words of wisdom. I forget not everyone tows with a 3/4 ton diesel and even a 2500 lbs load can push around an SUV tow rig. Not a bad idea, but if the car is properly strapped, it shouldn't move at all. I agree with your method for setting ball height and tongue weight. I won't say what you're saying about strapping to the wheels is wrong, but it's certainly not the only "proper" way to do it. You will notice most of the tractor trailer car haulers strap(chain actually) down the chassis compressing the springs. I tow a vehicle on a car trailer probably twice a month on average. I typically strap to the frame and compress the suspension to the bumpstops. Then add a backup strap to the rear axle just in case all hell breaks loose. In the end, there are a million different ways to strap a car to a trailer, as long as you're using common sense and proper hardware, you will be fine.
  8. What kind of trailer? A 7 is so light, you could probably strap it down with bungie cords I think you'll find that you will struggle to criss-cross the straps even though that is the preferred method. With the limited suspension travel of a 7 and the scarcity of accessible hook up points, you'll end up strapping where you can and it will be fine. On Frankn7 we always hooked to the front a-arms and then a big strap to the rollbar down over the trunk. It wasn't the best way, but the car never moved. I plan to add proper tie-down points to the car as I revamp it.
  9. So what happened? Driver error? or mechanical failure?
  10. Would you rather they go straight from the closed-shop states to Mexico or India? Can someone explain to me what unions do these days to protect workers besides artificially inflate their wages to the point that corporations can't afford to employ them anymore? I'll be the first to acknowledge that unions did GREAT things 100 years ago. Not so sure they're anything more than extortionists these days. We should export them to China :flag: Hey, this is the "controversy" forum after all :jester:
  11. :toetap05: I'm trying to restrain myself. It may be setup with suspension positions for more ground clearance for gravel road touring, but that's as much offroad as I plan on doing.
  12. Mazda is being modest as he had one of the first 7's with an LS1. Having driven the Rotus regularly with the warmed up LS1(~450HP I believe), I can say with 100% certainty that the LS powered Stalker will be a FUN car to drive.
  13. Unfortunately my requirement that I be able to take my GF and 2 dogs in the car with me disqualifies the Miata.
  14. Ah yes, the AWD is the Countryman(4 door). Where would you draw the line in terms of mileage on the car? I'm looking at these to be a reliable commuter car first and foremost. Having it down for repairs/maintenance and having to drive one of my other vehicles in the fleet would defeat the purpose.
  15. I have driven a bunch of Minis. I used to work for a BMW dealership back in 02 when the Mini's first came out. I got to shuttle a lot of new Mini's from the BMW service bay to the Mini dealership 10 miles away. I found very creative ways to get there I had no idea they made AWD Mini's. Are they super rare? I've never even heard mention of them?
