Thanks John. That's a big help. I've read your build thread since the beginning but didn't remember you covering it, old brain. Bill

So, I changed the clutch master cylinder with the Wilwood unit, bled it thoroughly and nothing. No or little resistance right to the floor. I'm pulling the motor this weekend, should be fun... I have a Zetec with a 5 speed, according to the order sheet from Sevens and Elans it was ordered with the upgraded 5 speed, whatever that is. Is the clutch slave cylinder a common piece for these or is it a matter of pulling it and matching it up? I understand it should be a stock Ford cylinder but doing research it seems like there could be some variation. I plan on inspecting everything to be sure it's all good. I haven't had any issues with the clutch until this happened, no chatter, slippage or anything so I hopeful all is well. Any input is appreciated. Bill

Anyone have any feedback regarding the Girling unit versus the Wilwood?

Thanks guys. The peddle goes right to the floor with limited resistance. At first it offered some resistance but not now. Interesting about the seals, I'll look at that as well.

Hello, I don't post much but read this forum regularly, this and occasionally blatchat. If I have a question about something or just looking for general info it is usually found within these two sites. I have a question that I've not seen. The other day, driving the 7 to work, I thought I heard an unusual noise. There are so many noises driving this car that I'm not absolutely certain. Regardless, I lost the clutch. No grinding noises, no thumping sounds, nothing seemed out of order, just no clutch. If I remember correctly I was downshifting to 3rd. I was able to rev match it to get to my office, then towed home.:cuss: A visual inspection showed some oil on the shelf next to the clutch master cylinder and with pushing the pedal a small amount of fluid squirts out of of the vent hole on the top. With the engine off it runs through the gears fine, but running it will no go into any gear. My thought is the master cylinder is bad, a PO had it rebuilt but not knowing the shop I have limited trust. I want to relplace the master cylinder first as the slave cylinder resides within the bell house and requires an engine pull. I don't typically like to just throw parts(money) at a problem until solved but this is what makes sense at this point. Does my assessment make sense? Real question, is there a difference in quality between the the original Girling unit and the equivilant Wilwood unit? The original is a Girling 70. Thanks, Bill

Carl, I am happy to have the Caterham back. I drive it mostly for weekend jaunts and occasionally drive it to work just so I can take the long way home. I don't track the car so spirited country drives provide all the excercise it gets. Bill

Thanks Kitkat, I like the look of those. Hijack over. Was enjoying the event vicariously via the internet and will continue as the pictures roll in. Updated my wife with each new post. She especially got a kick out of Croc's herding of the cat's... Eventually suggested that I plan on attending next year. She's the best. Looks like it was a great time. -

Can someone tell me what seats those are in the orange car? Post #111 What it is? The dash doesn't look familiar. Who's it is? -
Jay, Good to know there are other 7 owners that close, the northwest hills are an awesome ride and where I test drove my Cat before my first ownership. The back roads and smaller state routes in Haddam, Clinton, Essex and such are great fun as well. It would be fun to meet up and compare notes on our cars and favorite roads and get the Cats out for some exercise. Bill

Thanks Tom, while I enjoy a good road trip, I don't think that's in the books for me, at least not this year. Wemtd, I live in Bozrah, near Norwich, but my company in based in Glastonbury. You?

Hello, I brought this Cat back to Connecticut. A friend joked that I am the third and the 6th owner. I bought this car in 2015, drove it some over the next 18 months but found myself spending all of my free time the second year riding my motorcycle in prep for a cross country trip. I just couldn't stand seeing it sit as much as it did and knew it would be some time before I would get to drive it so decided to sell. Hard decision. Ben Hughlett bought it and did some tasteful upgrades before selling to "Mr. Beagle" in Illinois. Over this past winter I had started to look at some of the sevens for sale around the country and early in the spring had thought about chasing down the current owner and then he listed it here. As they say, you need to strike while the iron is hot, so I did. Mr. Beagle and I reached terms quickly and I had the car back in a little more than a week. I used Intercity to ship the car, partially from a reference made from Croc that I found here and partially from a friend who knows their maintenance chief, an individual of eclectic tastes who has raced in One Lap with some success. They were great to deal with and the price was very reasonable. I've owned and sold my fair share of cars and bikes through the years but I've never owned the same one twice or even the same model. This Cat got under my skin and I thoroughly plan on showing it the attention I failed to do the first time. Mr. Beagle, thank you for making this an easy (re)purchase. Bill

Mike, My car is sold and the 3 ring binders with the specs are on their way to the new owner, perhaps he will chime in with the data. I must say that this forum is one of the most supportive and helpful of the many automotive forums on the web. This thread is the most entertaining of them all. While I haven't posted much, I have read quite a bit before my purchase and during my brief ownership. I appreciate the positive attitudes and contributions of the people involved. I may own another 7 in the future, they were on my list of "dream cars" for many years and the one I owned did not disappoint. Good luck to all. Bill -

Ben, I have a 2001 Caterham SV that I was planning on listing later this month. It has a Zetec which I was told dyno'd at 218 hp, 5 spd, LSD and just under 9,000 miles. Let me know if you might be interested. Best regards, Bill -
That's correct, Sevens & Elans had it listed and another dealer had listed it on ebay. I bought it from the owner after the e-bay listing expired. Great car and the owner was a really great guy. Bill

Interesting observation, it would appear that the same individual is the "high bidder" on the Caterham and the seller's Norton as well. -

I'm new here though I've been lurking for a few months trying to determine what it might take to appease my growing Seven distraction. While I recognize that I have no cache here, I really appreciate the commentary as it adds to my slowly growing understanding of the wide and varied subject matter. That and I find it humorous.
