Does that mean definitely time to replace it?
-
My 2001 Zetec SV ... As I let off the throttle there is a very annoying rattle that sounds like it is coming from the exhaust. I have checked the rear mounting bracket, the clamps holding the exhaust shield in place, and the flange bolts. I am betting that the exhaust is coming apart inside but figured I'd check here before jumping in to replace it ... Any ideas? Also, if it comes to replacing it ... Can anyone recommend a solid system easily found in the US?

I was mostly just kidding about the swap ... Didn't think for a second that you would entertain that idea. I have only owned my Seven for a couple of months but wish that I had the foresight to wait to find one with the Duratec engine and in a spec closer to what I really want. That said, mine is a 2001 SV pictured above with the Zetec Engine, individual throttle bodies, SVO heads, and uprated cams. Red interior, full weather kit, and lots of spares. (2 styles of Carbon Dashboards, Carbon sill guards, carbon front cycle fenders, and many more) I have installed LED tail lights from JustAddLightness that we're an exact match for originals. It drives GREAT and I have put about 1500-2000 miles on it in the few months I've had it ... Had it inspected mechanically and a track safety inspection at Havoc Motorsports when I first bought it and have had it on 3 or 4 track days as well.

Thank you for those pics ... It gives me a better idea where to start looking

That's a GREAT idea!

These are my front calipers ... Didn't have time to remove wheels tonight ... Will research some more

How can I tell which 2 pot brakes I have? They don't appear to have any identifying marks?
-
I am definitely working on braking less ... Have knocked a solid 10 seconds from my best lap on day one ... Mostly through braking later and less
-
I have replaced the brake fluid with a high temp fluid ... Blanking on type right now. I definitely think new/different pads is the place to start ... I have had several recommendations for Mintex 1144 pads so I will probably start there, thank you for the offer though!

Mine are 2 pot front and rear ... Love the look of your 4 pot fronts ... Mine all look like the unpainted 2 pots in your pics with a little surface rust here and there. As for the feel, I am able to get hard enough on the brakes to lock them up ... But what I would like is a greater usable range of pressure ... It seems like the difference between any braking at all, and locking the brakes up is very small. I hope I am describing that well enough.

My current brakes require a HUGE amount of force to get any stopping power at all ... And the difference between the amount of force to get nothing and locking up seems very small ... It leads me to brake WAY too early ... See my most recent session 2 post in my videos thread ...

Do you happen to know what model master cylinder to get? The one that is on my car looks quite large to my eye and I would hate to get the same part.
-
It's not JUST the pedal feel I am after ... although that is my primary desire with the change. The calipers themselves and the hardware with which they attach to the ... control arm? ... Really let down the look of the car in my opinion ... Some surface rust on all of it ... Would love some nice painted calipers

Awesome! Congratulations on picking up a beautiful Seven!

I have already asked Wilwood and the rep I spoke with said they didn't have anything that would bolt on to a Caterham without some custom mounts and directed me to a company that does some custom work out of AZ. They weren't much help. As for the front/rear balance ... Has anyone run a dual master cylinder setup to facilitate a brake bias adjustment? Is there a US supplier of AP brakes? I will do some more research on them as I am not familiar with AP at all

I am toying with the idea of replacing the calipers and rotors on my Cat instead of just the pads ... If I do that, I would like them to be upgraded over the 2 piston setup that's currently on the car. Does anyone have any suggestions for complete brake kits that would fit inside 13" Apollo's? Other than weight ... What are the other problems that could be caused by making this change?

Here are the links to the track day on 7/26/18 ... Session two had the worst sound but the fastest laps of the day
-
What pads do you use in the 2 pot brakes?
-
After reading your audio thread, I knew you would get a kick out of the tech issues! You are welcome for the invite! I completely understand having to work and other commitments ... Priorities! I have a sneaking suspicion we will see the track together at some point!

3rd session went well ... Had my fastest lap of the day and more consistent times as well The mic battery died before the 3rd session ... And rather than subject everyone to crazy wind noise, I just picked some good driving songs https://www.dropbox.com/s/159szk6o2a6xwf4/7%2017%2018%20ABCC%20Session%203%20w%20data.mp4?dl=0

These are the first 2 sessions of the day. I was very disappointed with my driving in the first but the sound is SO MUCH BETTER than last time! Thanks to Croc for the audio thread and last minute tips! The second session was a bit better, starting to push a little more, shifts were a little better ... But the GoPro battery died 2/3rds through the session .... Grrr

Track Days Ain't Easy and How Not to Tow
BeagleGuy78 replied to xcarguy's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Wow! I am glad everyone is ok and the damages were relatively minor! Great write-up ... valid and very useful incite and tips for others to avoid the same issues! Thanks for taking the time to type this up and share! -
Come drive it with me? Like I told KitKat ... Would love to have some fun with another Seven on track! The Radical SR3's smoke me!

Well, my membership expires in August and I probably won't renew ... But if you would like to give it a try, I would love to have another Seven to play with on track, I will be going 7/17 & 7/18 weather permitting.
