The carpet on the side of the transmission tunnel in my Caterham is coming off. The manual says 'glue the carpet in place'. What kind of glue is used for this (I'm not the original builder). Thanks. ---john.

I too have fond memories of Ed having met him on PNW 2007 (has it been six years already?) RIP! ---john.

On the one hand that's really cool. On the other hand I wish my browser were a bit smaller and faster... that's a feature that adds pretty much nothing to surfing the web.

California brake and light inspection.
johnh replied to jimrankin's topic in General Sevens Discussion
It's been a few years since I registered under SB-100/1538 but as mentioned earlier, the SB-100 designation only applies (as far as I understand) to smog equipment. My car was still subject to brake/lamp inspection and I was failed the first time around for not having my brake fluid level warning light functional. Unfortuantely the understanding Shell station where I had my inspections done is no longer in business. -
When did you guys start offering that? I think I missed out... :willy_nilly:

Could you give us an updated itinerary?

Sorry to resurrect a thread from two years ago. Yesterday I decided to drop in on a person I had only corresponded with on the 'net. I thought he lived in Garberville as that's where his mailing address is. Turns out he lives off 'Bell Springs Road'. The name sounded vaguely familiar and then I recalled that BSR was considered as part of one of the California trips. As the guidebook says 'a dirt and gravel road'. Some of it might qualify as 'well maintained' but there were a lot of washboard sections, rocky sections, a few choice potholes, etc. I only drove the 11 miles up from the south and my friend claimed that was the 'better part'. In any event, the views were gorgeous and I was very happy that I wasn't in the Caterham...

They make a couple of stops between Edwards and the Space Center. This story talks of taking off from Mississippi. I don't think there is a line of trees at the end of the runway at Edwards...

A friend of mine who owns *several* electric cars recently send along this email: "Tesla Motors (http://www.teslamotors.com/) is unveiling their second car, the four-door luxury sedan, on March 26th. Pure Electric, 200+ mile range, target price is $50,000 after the Federal subsidies, available 2011 (or so). If you're interested in getting an early order in on one of these beasts, they are currently taking orders only from existing Roadster customers, but they are giving each Roaster customer five "friends-and-family" "coupons". If you're interested in one of these slots of mine, let me know. First come-first serve. There are two ways to order. The first 1000 cars are their "signature series". They'll be fully loaded with all the options, including the highest-range battery pack. $40,000 refundable deposit holds your position in line which is set based on when they receive the deposit. You can also leave a $5,000 deposit for a regular-production car, again position in line based on when they receive the deposit, but these will be produced after the Signature Series cars." Just FYI...

Gawd I hate those things. Some late model cars are similiarly equipped and there's nothing like following a white-knuckler into town who taps the brakes at the merest hint of a bend in the road. I agree that they are very effective in aggravating the folks behind you! Or course in a Se7en, there's less chance that cars will be stacked up behind you in the twisties... ---john.

The biggest problem I have with the Caterham weather gear is the trapped heat. On PNW2007 we were in Oregon, it was chilly and threatening, and I was bundled up against the cold. Then we stopped and put up the weather gear. I stopped two blocks later to strip down to a tank top! And now I know why the side curtains are hinged in the middle. You can push out the bottom and get some cool air into the car...

Dear Amazon.com Customer, As someone who's shown an interest in automotive tools and equipment, you might like to know about the CarChip Pro. A great tool for parents of teen drivers, the CarChip Pro records vehicle trip and performance data including speeding, driver tendencies, and extreme acceleration. It also alerts drivers with an audible alarm if they exceed a user-determined speed limit, or if they accelerate or brake too hard.

As you drive up 89, keep going past 299 about six miles and stop at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park. Neat waterfall a short hike down from the parking area. Here's a picture of the falls. Still trying to see if I can get the time off... ---john.

Personally I'd like to see some touring over a weekend since it's unlikely that I could score a whole week off. I'm closer to the area so could drive and meet for a couple of days. :7drive: ---john.

Here's a snippet from a guidebook published in 2004: Bell Springs Road Might be ok just not at typical se7en speeds...

Hi John, Do you have any google map url's for the route options? I will say the strech of CA-1 between Legett and the Coast can be a lot of fun! Thanks for working on this!

Hey John, Ask Mike about 'Forks of Salmon'. I think he's the only one from PNW2007 that took that route... But the rest looks pretty good!

I just started a new job so likely will not have much vacation accrued at that point. I could likely do a three day weekend (not necessarily Labor Day) or maybe four days if I really impress my new boss... Gert's routes look interesting but I haven't clicked all the links on Tom's map yet... ---john.

Why weren't you along for PNW2007? Been there, done that!
