  1. well, she's flexible enough to get in with the top up.
  2. gotta love it.
  3. glad you're not talking about me
  4. Lucky Antelope. Wildlife stay away from our autox events because they have heard Boxologist might be among the drivers.
  5. evotell, how are you defining quality? specifically, what are the specific areas where Caterham is above everyone else? I can understand your point about heritage, but are you also claiming that S1 through S4 Lotus 7s are of higher build quality than what you can buy from WCM / Stalker / Westfield / Birkin? Does this higher quality include better reliability? durability? factory support? Better availability of parts? I know of a handful of local caterham owners, and just in the last 3 years I have known them, there have been 2 caterham 6 speed gearbox failures. and it's not like you can drop it off at the dealer and pick it up next week. Car is down for extended periods of time. How long does it take to get Caterham's heated windshields on a customer car from the day the order is placed at the factory? Your original argument was that Caterham holds its value much better. Now everything else is just inferior. To avoid another long series of responses, you should qualify your statements... like you can buy a brand new caterham for 59K, and here is a fine used example for 45K... or here is WHY caterham is a higher quality product. People only get offended when there is an unsubstantiated statement. Take a look at the abuse that Kevin and company have subjected their ultralite to, and how in event after event Stalkers (with their very low tech pushrod V6's) clean up at autocrosses. To me, these provide real world proof that the products sold by these companies are not just inferior things you buy when you can't pony up for a Caterham.
  6. Jack, what length auger were you guys running. What about power drop? Are the ones using them happy with them?
  7. Burns also makes "drag racing mufflers" that are 2 lbs each. I'm curious how much they actually reduce the exhaust sound though. I think about $250 each. Auger style muffler are pretty popular with side piped v8 exhaust system. Simple, and based on what I've heard, minimal power loss. Here is what the muffler looks like. you just weld it inside a pipe. It has a straight through section, and the rest of the gases go around the auger part. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/pl/50,1736_Auger-Style-Muffler.html You can cut them to length for your application... I have not seen any dyno data for them though.
  8. ... and another one... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=2059472 another article A racecar driver and former Olympic athlete was killed this morning in a dramatic high-speed crash at Mosport International Raceway near Bowmanville. Police would not identify the victim until next-of-kin had been notified but sources told the Star this afternoon that the deceased is Dino Crescentini of Rochester Hills, Mich. Sources said Crescentini was in his early 60s. He was driving a Wolf-Dallara sports car in a race that was part of the 29th International Vintage Racing Festival at the track. It was the first vintage racing fatality ever recorded at Mosport. Organizers cancelled the rest of the day’s racing following the accident. Insp. Paul Hamilton of Durham Regional Police said that "(the driver) was heading northbound from corner six at Mosport. After this corner is a long straightaway and at some point his vehicle became airborne at an extremely high rate of speed and rolled end-over-end. "The driver was transported to Bowmanville hospital where he succumbed to his injuries." Crescentini had been involved in vintage racing for more than 10 years. The car in which he died was a centre-seat, closed-wheel vehicle that had been owned by Canadian industrialist and Formula One team owner Walter Wolf and driven in the 1977 Can-Am Series by the legendary Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve. Crescentini was an all-round sportsman. He was a member of the San Marino (Italy) bobsled team that competed at the 1992 San Marino Olympics. Vintage racing is made up of 10 classes ranging from pre-World War II racers to cars that were entered in races as recently as the late 1980s. The headline group this weekend featured cars that raced in the original Can-Am Series (McLarens, Lolas) from 1966 to 1974. Hamilton said he believes this is the first major crash at Mosport in several years. Durham’s traffic management unit was investigating.
  9. I know I had nothing to do with it. Mine seems to be significantly modded - it fits the nose cone PERFECTLY. Unfortunately it has developed a few leaks.
  10. Terry, I think the original poster is looking at cars that are already built / used. So, the "worthless" argument - even if it were true, doesn't really apply. If the others are worthless, he'll be buying them for next to nothing - I don't see how that's a bad thing. The only worthless seven is one that a- you can't fit into b- you can't register, if you want to drive it on the road c- doesn't have the features you want, or d- is poorly built or totally unreliable.

  15. All, I discussed this situation with the other club officers (Al N and John V), and our decision is to suspend the Deman USA account for 120 days. We are in no position to tell anyone what to charge and how to treat their customers, but we do have control over how this club property is used, and will step in if we feel anyone's conduct does not meet common sense standards. "We" in this case refers to club officers, and the officers heard your feedback loud and clear. Since Deman USA will not be able to post on this forum in the short term, I will keep this thread locked. If Jean (Shiva) wishes to make a comment after all the dust is settled and things are cleared up, I will open the thread for that purpose only. Please do not start any threads to discuss or bash Deman USA, as they will not be able to respond. Feel free to send me or anyone else comments via PM.
  16. Cool. there was a similar message inside of my original aluminum skin, dated 1983. No reference to any shows though.
  17. YouTube Video
  18. I emailed my wife the link to this thread with :leaving: as the subject. She's at work... phone rings like 10 seconds later. She is very worried I think. She's like "I'm busy, what's the "leaving" about?" considering my seven in in bare frame form, and my other toy car is parked outside because there is no room in the garage, I think it's best I sit this one out... gotta know when to hold 'em... when to fold 'em
  19. The reason the photos are all hosted on usa7s is because there are SO many clever ideas in the design of this car. I wish I had the cash to take it off your hands right now. For anyone wanting to design a car from scratch, these photos are a great resource. Alot of very neat ideas here. I wonder if my wife will kick me out this time :leaving:
  20. Hyper, welcome aboard. Good luck with the hunt

  22. All, I'm meeting with the other club officers either tonight or tomorrow morning to review what's happened, and decide what actions to take. I will lock the thread until after that meeting, and reopen at that time.
  23. I have not read everything on the ZR-1, so I'm not sure if they installed a speed limiter on it or not, BUT, without a speed limiter, I have no doubt a stock one can do those speeds. When GM first release the power numbers on the ZR1, they quoted it as 620 HP. Actual "official" numbers released by GM list it at 638hp. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/25/officially-official-corvette-zr1-makes-638-hp-and-604-lb-ft/ The ZR1 has also already been spied at "the Ring", running an unofficial 7:40 lap on a damp track. It'd be interesting to see the final time.
