    Crazy Carts

Before we started I pronounced death by dismemberment to anyone who hit the Caterham, I didn't care about the lawn tractor (2 hits), the shop vac (1 hit), the garbage can (3 hits), the tool cabinets (2 hits) or the lift tower (1 hit). Any time you or anyone else is in the area we can get it out and have some fun. Its fun even if you aren't drinking margaritas. If the weather is bad we can run it in the shop again. Jimmy325: The way we were going was the long dimension of the shop. There is a Caterham and a 4 x 8' trailer on the other side and a lawn tractor in the middle.

    Crazy Carts

Here are a few clips of some friends and I having fun with the modified Crazy Cart in my shop. Not much space so the cart cannot get up to full speed before running out of room. It was too dark and too cold to take it out on the street, I made some more mods because the moving of the seat and battery towards the rear along with our having more upper body mass made the car susceptible to tipping over or even doing reverse wheelies with a loss of traction and steering control. I moved the battery and controller to the front of the cart and added wheels under the old battery tray at the back to make a wheelie bar. The cart is more controllable. Darrell and Daryl in the first two videos have never been on the cart before that evening. They did pretty well considering the number of margaritas we had at dinner. http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/scannon929/library/Crazy%20Cart
  3. I talked with them a few years ago about converting an 18" aluminum flat bed trailer I owned at the time. They were responsive and willing to build one on my trailer if I brought it to their Utah location. I decided I wanted the security of a metal sided trailer when traveling and leaving the trailer and Seven in a motel parking lot overnight.
  4. I have a 14 x 7' Haulmark Lohauler trailer. It is designed for motorcycles and very low profile, some 20" lower in overall height than the previous trailer. It also has a V-nose that helps with wind resistance and gas mileage. My mileage went from 8 mph to 11 mph with this trailer. It weighs about 2,200 lb and the back of the trailer swings down for a loading ramp. I went through 4 other trailers before settling on this one. It has brakes on all four wheels and tows very well, never a problem with swaying or whipping. It's a good fit for a Seven but I can also get an MX-5 Miata in it but I have to climb over the door to get out of the car.

I WAS going the other direction, things just got bit out of control and there are no brakes on a Crazy Cart. Fortunately due to the shortness of the shop the cart cannot get up to its top speed of 12 mph. That might have had a permanent effect on the jewels.
  6. Hey Bearslayer, looking to add another trophy to your shelf? We'll have to get white and brown teddy bear heads, one for each headlight. They are bigger so they hit harder. Maybe you should install a kangaroo bar on the front of your Caterham.
  7. Seventeen year old Joe Bush got a high school assignment to make a video reproduction. He chose history as a theme and tucked it all into two minutes. Take pictures from the internet, add the track Mind Heist by Zack Hemsey (from the movie Interception) and then you get something like this. http://marcbrecy.perso.neuf.fr/history.html
  8. After the GBB how can I resist?
  9. He is a highly skilled machinist working for an aerospace company. He also works in glass, ceramics, makes high dollar kaleidoscopes and lots of other things. He built that shop himself. John also did the machining on my Caterham build, things like motor mounts, water outlets and reconfiguring the tailshaft of the transmission to fit into the Caterham tunnel.
  10. John has been working on this project for quite awhile. He started with measurements taken from my SV and designed his own version using a Miata drivetrain including the IRS. Today he started it for the first time. His Locost blog is at http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=13510&sid=a855ce69feef7c0940d40a05b53f6d94&start=15

    Crazy Carts

If you haven't seen this new toy on the market check out or search YouTube for "crazy cart". After watching a few of these videos a friend and I each came to the conclusion that we needed one. Never mind that the manufacturer puts a weight limit of 140 lbs on it (both of us are in the 190 lb range), we figured we would ride it until it broke and fix it and ride some more. We went to a Toys R Us store to check one out and put it on the floor and sat on it to see if we could fit. It was a very tight fit and we couldn't drive it since it didn't have a battery in the floor model. We had a coupon for a 20% discount and the clerk offered another 15% if one of us signed up for a Toys R Us credit card. This brought the price down from $400 to about $275 and we split it between us. The first test rides were in my shop so space was limited but it didn't take many minutes of riding to get very uncomfortable. Once I crashed head on into the lift tower and put a dent in the front of the chassis. Worse than that the family jewels crashed into the two bars supporting the steering column. Some modifications were in order. You can see the modifications I made to the car here: http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/scannon929/library/Crazy%20Cart

  15. Wings, Welcome aboard. That is one clean installation. Love the air/water intercooler, where are the water/air heat exchanger and the circulation pump located? How about a close up picture of the turbo and its mounting to the exhaust header?
  16. This thing sounds like it has a manual transmission but it has an automatic.
  17. Depends on what top you are referring to. Looks like a fun beastie. Congratulations, it fits right in with the rest of your toys.
  18. Kudos to Marg!!
  19. Getting back to the original intent of the thread, American Sevens the book "Lotus Sevens & the Independents" by Dennis Ortenburger lists the following Sevens manufactured in the USA: Centaur Seven, California 1986 Champion, start of the Locost Sevens Diva Roadster, front half is Seven, rear half is Cobraesque, V8 Ford and Chevy power. DSK, 1975. Re-engineered the Caterham adding 100 lb and more HP Rotus, 1981. Haggerstown, Maryland. Toyota engines. "Rotus was a form of the Latin verb "rotare" which means to turn. Sabre Seven, 1974, Ventura, California. Based on Pinto and Mustang II donors. Stalker, Florida. We all know about this one. V6 & now V8 GM engines. Super 8, three unfinished cars on eBay in September 2001. 5.0 Ford engines and E type rear suspensions. WCM Ultralite, S2k engines and transmissions. We all know about this one too. Viking Sport Roadster, early 1980s. Started with Toyota twin cam engines and then went to the turbocharged RX7 engine with up to 450 HP. The book was published in 2004 and he lists 57 different makers of Sevens in the world. I seem to recall his mentioning somewhere in the book that at least 81 different brands of Seven clones have been marketed.
  20. Yes, that's what the 1961 R&T article said.
  21. There is an earlier thread on this forum where it was discussed.
  22. I believe the number of SB100s was upped to 1,500 this year, there should still be some left at this time.
  23. It appears from reading the above article that the first appearance of clamshell wings on a Lotus 7 occurred on the America.

  25. Taber aka Bearslayer, I think the painter should make the stripes right for you. Take the car to them and show them where they missed the alignment. There are different length Dzus fasteners, maybe a shorter one would solve the looseness problems. I use small O-rings on the fasteners to keep from losing them when the bonnet and nose cone are off the car. One of them on the outside of the nose cone may also help. Have you had a chance to drive it yet?
