I have (or had now) the paperwork for the extra muffler and the shop did say it was a muffler to quiet the car down.
-
Sold. Please give the new owner all the help you've given me when he inevitably finds himself here. Thanks to all who assisted with selling!
-
It was a resonator the previous owner added to quiet the car down. I have since had it cut off.
-
Suspending this post (Again) since the car is going to Bring a Trailer.
-
I sent you a private message with my phone number, as I do not post it publicly. I get enough spam.
-
That being said, if anyone is seriously interested please reach out to me and let's make a deal! My daily driver unexpectedly sold in less than 24 hours and I need this guy to be gone so I can replace my daily and stop riding my girlfriend's Z125 to work with the upcoming cold weather!

I did this morning, just before the pictures.

I will most likely be putting this car in an auction next week. Please let me know beforehand if you or someone you know is interested before that happens.

Ahaha you found me! I got lucky and found that jacket in size Small on Etsy. I was thrilled.

Hey guys, This is going to come as a surprise to some of you because it seems like I just bought this car (1 year ago), but I have decided to place it up for sale as some circumstances in my life have changed and it will not get the use I intended for it. I'm not a huge fan of things just sitting in the garage for most of their lives. Basically in my ownership I have sorted out the flaws I ran into. The car was brought back into the US by the previous owner after he was done serving overseas. It is RHD with a Vauxhall C20XE motor built by Swindon. Dyno sheet with the car shows 238 HP. Ford Type 9 gearbox with straight-cut gears is currently in the car. There's an entire extra crated gearbox with semi helical gears that comes with it. The car is standard chassis, standard floor. The things that have been done in my ownership: Engine has been removed to fix oil leak coming from rear main seal. Several other seals that were easy to get to were replaced while the engine was out. Entire drive belt and pulleys were also replaced at this time. The hole that was drilled into the bottom of the transmission to easily drain the fluid was leaking and we re-sealed that as well. The extra resonator added to the exhaust pipe for more sound deadening was removed. Coolant was flushed and refilled. Repaired a few wiring gremlins that were old and worn, one of which that caused the blinkers to hyperflash. Fuel pump relay and fuses related to the fuel pump were blown and replaced. A new battery has been put in. Extras: The car comes with a whole load of parts. The ones I can remember this morning are: Crated Type 9 gearbox with semi helical gears. Entire extra set of wheels and tires as well as an extra set of tires and some random one offs. Doors, roof and original heated windshield. I usually run the aero windscreen. Shower cap car cover. Wheel chock. Battery cutoff switch (Never installed) Entire binder of history that the previous owners kept. Originating from the original build order for the car. All services and parts bought for the car are kept in record. 18,xxx miles Please feel free to ask any questions, I'm sure there's things I missed. Shoot me a PM and I can give you my phone number to talk about it. I also have a video of a full walkaround while the car is warming up.

Such a small world. Strange we haven't run into each other yet. In literally the General Manager of a motorcycle gear store here and I worked at SpeedVegas for two years. And, I live up the street from SpeedVegas. Wonder if we have not realized we've seen each other somewhere. Lol. I'll shoot my number to you in a private message maybe we can get together and talk. I probably have some information that would help you regarding registration and getting the car worked on. And the SpeedVegas situation.

I primarily run my car with the aero screen. I have worked in the motorcycle industry all my life so I wear my motorcycle helmet when driving my car. It has a communication system so when my girlfriend is with me she wears her helmet with her communication system as well. Also works great for hearing GPS from my phone and music if I want. I will always wear a helmet with it when running like this. One reason is I have bad eyes that don't produce tears so I can't have wind rushing past my eyes. Other reason is when riding a motorcycle, I've been hit by decent sized rocks travelling at 80 mph and I don't recommend it. Hitting me in the chest while wearing leather I can feel it. I imagine getting hit in the face when only wearing something like goggles is probably not super fun times.

Don't remember if I've seen you around. I am in Vegas and drive my HPC fairly often. Looks good. I am local and can take a look at this car if anyone needs.
-
Can I get this in the US?
-
If you have anymore questions about it before the sale, there's a few of us that have the C20XE motor in our cars. Mine is a 94 HPC model. I'm in touch with a couple other guys who also have the motor. I'm still learning but I've amassed a fair amount of information for the car.

Blipshift heads up: 7 material "Add Lightness"

I was notified and bought it immediately! -
Update on this car: The engine came out last night. We found that indeed the rear main seal and that smaller bearing cover is where the oil leak originated from. We are going forward with re-sealing pretty much everything on the engine while it is out of the car. Since it's an older vehicle and I don't know the entire history, seems like the logical step. One thing we are now stumped on is the clutch slave cylinder. My friend who is mainly doing the engine pull is concerned that it needs to be rebuilt or replaced, but can't find any parts anywhere for it. He is unsure if there's a GM equivalent part or what we can do to replace it. He also thinks it may just be one of those things that doesn't need replaced, he's just not sure. Attached pictures.

Wow, thanks for this. It's been hard finding information about this car on the internet. I'm glad to know another person that has a similar car. That way we can compare some notes here and there.

Hey Croc. Thanks for the reply. My original thought and the thought of the previous owner is that it's the rear main seal that is leaking. It is indeed engine oil that is leaking. There is gear oil leaking too but those have been identified and fixed. The engine oil is the main one we are trying to figure out. Sadly, I really don't know anything about the drivetrain in this car. All I know is what I can see in the paperwork he has given me. And there's not much information in there. And this is my first Caterham. I'm still learning all of what is going on and I've had trouble finding information online about the HPC cars. I know someone else who has one but ours are fairly different. So honestly I don't have a clue what dry sump is in the car. I'll forward the information you've given me to my friend that is working on the car.

Hey guys. I found someone local to diagnose and work on my recently bought car since I don't really have the space to do so at the moment. He seems to have narrowed the oil leak down to between the bellhousing and the block, but doesn't know exactly where in there it's coming from. He hasn't worked on sevens before so he is unfamiliar with the different drivetrains. He is asking if I have a diagram or schematic or anything that he can look at or a parts list. I am unfamiliar with the car as well so I don't really have that information or know enough about it. I have all the service records and original build manual but it doesn't go in depth on the dry sump and the bell housing holding the engine oil. I assume it's a gasket somewhere in there but he can't see one. Any information you guys can provide or a direction to point me in so I can tell him is appreciated. Car information: 1994 Caterham Super 7 HPC Vauxhall C20XE w/ Swindon internals Ford Type 9 gearbox Dry sump in the bell housing Thanks

So, tell us a little about yourselves

Yes, it was. Wasn't cheap to ship it to Vegas enclosed with the extra parts. That's for sure. -

Hey everyone, I posted in the Pacific thread but I figure I'll introduce myself here as well. Name is Chris from Vegas, I've been a Lotus enthusiast since I was a kid. Despite never having owned one until my 28th birthday. As a kid I had a poster of the Lotus 340R in my room. I think it was secretly training my subconscious for when I grew up. I ended up having interest in motorcycles on my teens and left home to go to technical school. Since then, I've worked in every position in the motorcycle industry. In that time, I bought my first car which was a 2003 MINI Cooper S. That started my real love of cars. That was eight years ago now. Two years ago I bought my dream car which was a 2005 Lotus Elise. I had it for a year. Six months of that year it spend time in a shop waiting for an entire front clam due to hitting an animal. I loved that car but I had owned my dream car and it was time to let it go after that bad experience. (A week after getting it back a truck here on a Vegas highway kicked up a 2x4 and scratched the fresh front clam paint. It was at that moment I decided to sell the car.) I ended up buying an AMG GLA45 to replace both the Lotus and MINI as a do everything car. Which I quickly realized I didn't like a one car for all solution. I had done so much research and had watched so many videos and read through books relating to Lotus and Colin Chapman over the years since I was a kid. Colin and drivers like Jim Clark became my heroes, and I didn't want any car that I didn't think fit the 'add lightness' philosophy of Colin. ( My lizard's name is Chapman). I have books and flags and model cars and everything Lotus in my house. I'm obsessed. So a couple months into the AMG ownership I decided I needed another sports car. I wasn't satisfied with the rather large and heavy AMG. Even though the power is ridiculous and the car is fun in its own way. I decided I had to go crazier than the Elise. So a Seven was the logical step. Over the last six months I've been diving in and researching and following forums to find information and take a look at the type of Sevens I could get my hands on. Caterham was ideal but they weren't really in my budget. I settled on GBS to build a car for me but that came with its own issues. So I stepped back a little and just started following the for sale posts in this forum. Going back and forth with what spec is want or what I'd settle for. I ended up not settling luckily and getting into a car that really fit me. So I picked up this 1994 HPC that was on Hemmings for a while. I'm happy with the spec, it checked every box for me. And while I was worried at first for right hand drive, I fell in love with it. The previous owners all kept a full history since the car was new from the original build manuals and engine specifications to the import paperwork for when it arrived in the US via an owner in the military. Thanks for all the great information stored in this forum. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions. Sorry for my long winded post. I just have a long history with following Lotus.
