The Copart Caterham sale mysteriously ended before it began. Perhaps the owner decided to buy it back? -

'95 Caterham on Copart - Dallas, TX https://www.copart.com/lot/93940855/clean-title-1995-lotus-replica-tx-dallas Sadly, a lot of damage here. -
The engine/transmission are removed from the top. Something like this is handy: https://obergtiltlift.com/ There are cheaper options at Harbor Freight, but not as slick as Oberg Tilt/Lift.

The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
straightcut replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
The first Locost Project (above) was originally listed by the builder at $900. The project is local to me in the Phoenix area. The project was purchased by what looks to be a flipper, who bumped the price to $1,500. This past week for unknown reasons, he cut the rear portion of the chassis off....sigh.... The ad now says the new owner can easily reattach it. Sure, no problem...and no price reduction for the addition to the project. GLWS, as they say... -
A friend much wiser on these things than myself advised that I only use brass core plugs, rather than the more commonly found galvanized steel. The last engine I left at the machine shop (a shop that I trust), replaced the cam bearings, measured and hone the cylinder, etc. replaced my core plugs with brass. Being the material they chose corresponded with what my old friend suggested, I figured the shop chose wisely. ;-)

I stand corrected! I received an e-mail from Fourthwall (the fulfillment company) today, offering a replacement shirt in my choice of colors! I ordered the same Navy as before (hoping for Navy as depicted from their color sample) and asked for an XL, hoping for a slightly larger neck and longer shirt length. I really can't believe it. John, did you happen to e-mail them on my behalf?! Edit to add Follow-up to my replacement order (above) The "Navy" XL shirt arrived in a timely manner. The "Navy" was the same blue/grey with a slightly distressed appearance. As for as sizing, well it's an XL, so a little large on me, but it's close enough. Also, the tail is longer and the neck size seems normal. I'm satisfied and can live with the grey-ish appearance. The company did their best, in the end to satisfy my request...though it did take a lot of back and forth before they budged.

Just a quick update - so far, they’ve rejected my claim. The fulfillment company considers there to be a “normal variation” in shades of navy. Despite the shirt I received looking more like their “Denim” color than their “Navy” color, they’re holding the line. Size-wise, we’ll, my shirt is within their +/-2” spec and they don’t take collar size into consideration. I asked if they would give one last thought on the possibility that I may have received a shirt in Denim or True Navy, but I’m not holding any hope they’ll concede anything at this point…

WANTED - Super Seven front grill emblem
straightcut replied to Bruce K's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I purchased two for about $43 - free shipping, but around $3 handling fee. -
Thank you, John! I sent a follow up message to the fulfillment firm with a color comparison picture. They don’t show neck size in their chart, but when compared to a Hanes L t-shirt (that’s not stretched), the 7 shirt is an inch smaller in diameter. If this is their normal neck size for a large, I’d probably prefer a golf shirt instead. Thanks so much for your comments and advice!

I’ve included a photo that depicts the color (IMO). I also included a navy shirt that I expected it would be similar to.
-
Thank you for your reply! Perhaps I received a True Navy as it does look more of that color. I double checked my order - I definitely ordered Navy.

I purchased a large, Navy T-Shirt that recently arrived. I'm 5'11" and weigh 135, so not a big guy. I typically wear between a Medium and Large and always wear large t-shirts. I immediately noticed the small collar - tight just trying to get my not-all-that-large (size 7 hat) head through it and also noticed the shorter than typical tail. Additionally, the "Navy" looked like slightly distressed grey - my better half concurred and neither of us are color blind. I'm sorry for a full set of complaints :-(. Have you had any similar comments or is it just me? I really wanted to like this shirt and order more, but I just won't wear this one due to poor fit. There is no provision for returning a clothing items that doesn't fit: Because products are made to order, we do not accept general returns or sizing-related returns.

I received the “7” grill emblems from SendCutSend a few days ago (I was out of town). They turned out fantastic! Thank you, Tgentry for the hot tip! -
Are there many Lotus produced Seven owners on this forum?
straightcut replied to EdWills's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I have a '62 Super Seven (SB1582), currently apart for rebuilding/restoration. It has the 1340 Kent engine and left the factory wearing bare aluminum and BRG fiberglass, which it is being returned to. Also, a more recent aquisition is a '60 Series 2 Seven America (B1107) with a 948 Sprite engine, currently wearing maroon paint. It left the factory in white paint according to John Watson. I'm hoping to get this one on the road as a driver because I need to drive at least one of these cool cars! Mark -

MV8, thank you for showing me my error; I was looking at height then length. mrmustang, I was trying to purchase two of these from Premier Wiring in the UK for about a year. They stated every sort of reason, illness, out of stock, etc. As soon as they had them back in stock, the tariffs were applied and I gave up on them - hence my quest to find one made in the US. That's the point of a tariff anyway, right? An incentive for domestic manufacturing. Tgentry's suggestion of sendcutsend is excellent - easy, U.S. made parts and quick and inexpensive! I bought two 416 stainless grill emblems for less than one from Premier Wiring and avoided international shipping, tariff and hassle. -

Well, that is strange! When I upload the file to sendcutsend.com, it shows the height at 8.255”. Im not too worried about the width as long as it’s generally proportional. -

tgentry, thank you for the file and excellent information. I hate to ask for more, but would you be able to downsize the "7" logo to a max height of 7.75" from the 8.255"? My grill is apparently a bit narrower than yours and I wouldn't want to take it to a belt sander as soon as I pull it out of the envelope! ;-) Thank you, Mark -

Wow, I’ve not heard of them! Can you share a few details? Did you provide a file with size dimensions and which material and thickness did you choose? Was it pretty reasonable? Thank you so much! -

Pardon me for digging up this old thread from 2021 - I'm looking for two of the Caterham "7" grill logo's, preferably (but flexible) in stainless steel. Does anyone manufacture these here in the U.S. to avoid the new tariff? -
I need a Positive earth tachometer
straightcut replied to Timothy Keith-Lucas's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
You are not alone, wdb! I’m waiting and watching as well. I received an e-mail from Pemberton Imperial addressed to their U.S. customers that they were going to add an $80 charge to all orders to the U.S. (if the order was over a certain amount, the fee could be higher). It’s my understanding the tariff was 20%, so the $80 charge smells of a “gouge”… -
I need a Positive earth tachometer
straightcut replied to Timothy Keith-Lucas's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
I'm sorry, I'm not on my computer, so it's not easy for a relative computer illiterate to respond in a hurry... If I recall correctly, you have a S2 Seven America. The correct tach was also used on the classic Mini Cooper S and it is positive ground. There are ways to convert + ground tachs to - ground, but that's going off topic. If you go to eBayUK and type in this item number: 197643748882 You can at least see the tach that's original to your Seven. Now, finding a tach like this in the U.S. is going to be a challenge. Maybe you know someone going to the UK who can drop one in their luggage for you? Hope that's helpful! Mark -
I just saw the video above this morning. It’s only $80 if you go the pay as you go route plus $.99/use.

front fender top running/turn signal lights
straightcut replied to ptegler's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Lotus also used the torpedo style Lucas L516 (mentioned above by toldfield). If you're patient, you can find them on eBay, but you'll always find them on eBayUK - there are several pair listed there now. Try searching both Lucas 516 and L516. Also listed are reproduction rubber plinths (the rubber base) which you'll probably need. Original plinths by now have typically become rock hard and deeply cracked. The L516 originally came with a glass lens, though reproductions now are plastic, so you may want to clarify lens material and if the plinths are reproductions before clicking the buy-it-now. Mark
