Hi Again MV8 and thank you for the explanation. So the check engine light can be disabled then. If the piggyback thing is just for the gauges could i replace all the gauges with ones that will work with the Haltech and completely remove the old Lotus ECU? I take it that if I could remove the old ECU the Haltech would then operate the check engine light and the check engine light would work as normal? This is all new territory to me. Dave

Front M1 spec coilovers and a rear ARB
Drakman replied to Drakman's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Hi MV8, Thank you very much for the diagram, that clears up a lot. I was thinking the ARB mounted from underneath. So it's true, a picture is worth a thousand words. -
Hi Guys and Girls, I am having a Haltech Elite 1500 programmable ECU fitted to my 2014 Duratech Roadsport 175 Caterham to replace the locked Lotus ECU. The business doing the install tell me they have to "piggyback" the original lotus ECU to make it read the instruments but they can't get the water temp gauge to work. Their answer is to replace the Caterham temp gauge with a Haltech digital temp/AFR gauge. Now I can wear this so far, I would prefer not to have the piggyback thing and I would like to keep all the original gauges but it is what it is. Now they tell me that the original locked, piggy backed, Lotus ECU is running the instruments and it can't find the engine sensors because the Haltech unit is now doing that which means the engine check light is on all the time. Surely this can't be an acceptable thing, is there an answer to this issue? Has anyone here had any experience with this sort of thing. Cheers Dave

Front M1 spec coilovers and a rear ARB
Drakman replied to Drakman's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Actually it is the bar of the ARB that is the problem, the bar mounts in brackets that i assume bolt to the trailing arm from underneath. With a side exit exhaust there is no issue but the rear exit exhaust runs directly where the underslung ARB mounts. I think if i had a an ARB to try i could fit it on top of the trailing arm in the same mounting holes. My car came with the holes in the trailing arms and the bracket for the drop links fitted, i was thinking the rear exit exhaust necessitated the removal of the ARB. -
Front M1 spec coilovers and a rear ARB
Drakman replied to Drakman's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Hi MV8, Thank you for the links. I have seen those on the Caterham page, the rear ARB doesn't seem to be available in a kit for a SV metric chassis. My car has a rear exit exhaust, it also has the mounts for a rear ARB but the bar would have to be mounted above the arm because the exhaust passes to close under for the ARB to fit as an underslung bar. Has anyone had any experience with this? -
Hi Guys and Girls, I am looking for a set of front M1 spec coilovers and a rear ARB for a 2014 metric SV wide suspension Caterham. The Caterham reference number for the coilovers is 74501AW. Thanks Dave

Hi Mark, What condition are the Bilstein shocks and springs in and are they also to suit an SV? Thanks Dave

Hi Blake, Yes, tracsport@hotmail.co.uk was the email. It did take a few days to get a reply though. I also looked at O.S. GIKEN, LSD's in Italy of all places, mostly because the distributor here in Australia didn't seem the least bit interested. The Guy? in Italy, Gabriele, was super helpful but OS GIKEN don't currently have anything that will work for the BMW 168 diff. I contacted the guys at rrtransmissions as well, I'm just waiting for shipping cost's from them at the moment. Cheers Dave

Hi Blake, Yes, I have received a response from Steve Perks, He seems like a straight up Guy as well. Here is a copy of his reply re sending a Tracsport out to me in Australia. I had to wait a couple of days for his reply to my initial email, I would think he is flat out at the moment. Hi David I can ship you a Tracsport LSD, you would need to find a suitable transmission company to install it. The only other way is for you to purchase a new BMW complete differential 3.64 from Caterham, I fit the Tracsport LSD and ship the complete unit to you. BMW do not make a mechanical plate type diff for the one series only M cars. Regards Steve Perks I have some prices to ship to Australia as well, I have no idea how or if that will relate to costs to you but I thought shipping to Australia for the Diff centre was good. Hi David The Tracsport LSD is £1273.89 shipping approx. £120.00. 2 x side bearing £39.13 each. 2 x side seal £9.30 each. I personally do not know a transmission shop in your area. The crown wheel is bolted on standard. Regards steve Hope this helps Blake Dave

Yes agreed CBuff, it is interesting. Not too sure I agree with the Titan LSD diff comments though.

Hi Guys and Girls, I think the Getrag diff is a Torsen helical torque biasing action, geared not with clutch plates. Must be like the quaife diff I guess. From what I have read they sound good for a road car but some say that they will break axles in a racing scenario if a wheel lifts off and regrips the bitumen.
-
Hi BlakeJ, yes i emailed Steve as well. The Tracsport sounds like a good way to go. I have also asked this company about their diff centres as well. https://www.difflab.com.au/pages/os-giken-superlock-technology Apparently the diff in my car is a BMW 168 but there are several versions thereof.
-
Apologies Lostin Complexity, I thought MV8 had purchased the car. You have done well, your new car looks beautiful.
-
Congratulations MV8, I was following this one as well, I do hope that the alloy body has a coat of clear so you don't have to polish all that alloy every week. I just sold a Norton for that reason, lol. Sounds like a bargain to me, enjoy the ride when you get it sorted. Cheers Dave

Hi Guys and Girls, I have been reading the "BMW/Titan Viability" thread over on the Caterham & Lotus 7 Club site, nearly 60 pages and close to 600 posts. I don't think this issue can be confined to the UK so I was wondering what solutions to the failing BMW Titan LSD issue in Caterhams have been thought of here? I ask because I tested my car and found the Titan LSD has failed in my car, 2014 Roadsport with 13,000 Klm's. I haven't removed the diff yet so i don't know if i have the carbon plates or the sintered bronze. I know the Bellville washers/springs have most likely cracked/broken though as I can rotate the drivers side rear wheel by hand with the passengers side wheel firmly on the ground. Cheers Dave

I take it you know the story of the red and white Marlboro Torana, Brock was 6 laps up after 1000 klms of racing and set the lap record on the last lap in that car. You have some great cars there Mike. I need to get out more, I had no idea anyone in the US had any interest in cars from Australia. Cheers Dave
-
Hi Mike, Wow, you have no idea how impressed i am that someone in the US even knows what a Torana is. I worked for GMH in the experimental engineering section at Fishermans Bend years ago and I have owned 3, L34 Toranas. All Toranas are way overpriced now though especially the A9X and L 34 variants with prices starting around $250K up to 2 million for the Brock 1979 A9X, I could have bought that car for $36K when he sold it! I will see if i can track Jeff down. Thank you for the tip. Cheers Dave

Hmm, I wonder what it would cost to ship all these wheels to Australia. I don't know if UPS or DHL would even carry them. Does anyone here have any contacts for overseas shipping? Dave
-
Hi Guys and Girls, Thanks to all, I now have a car that starts as it should and it's an once or two lighter!
-
Hi Budlite, I got the information, thank you very much. Most helpful, this is exactly what i need to see. Cheers Dave

Wheel rims are measure from inside tyre bead to inside tyre bead so 6.5 inch rims. By your measurements take the difference from 7.3/8 ths wide and you are in the ball park for De Dion chassis, standard Orcus wheels. I would love those wheels but Australia might be a bit far away to come get them. Cheers

Hi Guys, I have a 2014 Roadsport 175 with very similar immobilizer issues, is it possible to get the immobilizer removal procedure sent to me as well? Cheers Dave
