I run the Yoko R888 tires now (worn out) with larger ones in the rear vs the front. The front smaller one is no longer available so I had to look for another solution.

Since these are my street use only tires and I live in the Pacific NW, I have going with 205/55-14 Hoosier Sports Car DOT Radial Wet H2O Tires 46115H2O from Summit. I've clearly made some trade offs here so think about whether this is the right choice for you. I run slicks for other uses (track, autox, etc)

Here's what I've found so far for 14 inch tire solutions - 4 Hoosier R7 in 205/55-14 Tread wear = 40. The issue is that these are not recommended for road use even though they are DOT - 4 Toyo R888R in 185/60-14 Tread wear = 100. - 2 Toyo R888 in 225/50-14 Tread Wear = 100. May only fit on rear.

Thanks. While I don't put a lot of faith in the tread wear ratings, I am looking for tires in the 20 to 40 range if I can find them. For example, I used a set of Avon ZZR tires recently and I think they are rated at 20. These were 13" and unavailable in 14.

Thanks!

Thanks for this. These are the size many lower powdered Caterhams came with but I've been using larger tires and also staggering.

I generally run 13" wheels but also have a set of 14" wheels I like to use for routine driving. Seems this size is becoming rare especially among sticky tire options. I've just about used up a set of Toyo R888 tires in 205/55-14 and 225/50-14. Sadly, Toyo no longer make the smaller front size, or I haven't been able to find them. The only option I have found is Hoosier R-7 in 205/55-14 which I'd use on all 4 corners. Any suggestions?

I currently run this size wheel studs and need to find some longer ones. I was hoping to use some from ARP but they catalog shows ones which require enlarging the hole in my hubs slightly to accommodate their larger knurl diameter. I'd rather not do this. Can any one help me source longer studs for: - Caterham front hub, aluminum, uprated stub axle - current ones are 47mm long (under head length) - need 57+mm length

I also have a Zetec... and have often thought about a supercharger upgrade. It seems this is something you are doing now? if so, is this something you might be willing to share information about or provide advice? John

Congrats! Can you please tell me what type of wheels those are? John

Nice picture! What kind of wheels are those? I think I have some 3-piece versions of the same brand (not sure what they are).

just a few thoughts about the tail lights. I recently had one tail light stop working. The fuse kept blowing. I eventually learned that the dash lights which illuminate the dash switches was on the same fuse and that many of these old switches ('99 DeDion) had degraded and begun to pull more current than normal which all added up to more than the fuse could handle. I could have replaced all the switches but instead pulled the ground wires to many of those switches.

Anybody want to discuss chassis set up for autocrossing? I just started autocrossing after road racing found my '99 Caterham DeDion had a lot of understeer under autocross conditions.

Ok, so now more about the SPA gauge. It's a nice but expensive dual gauge (temp/pressure) complete with sensors. I've have had it more than 10 years without any issues. It's "programmable" in that it allows use of metric or standard units and low/high thresholds for pressure and temp. Best of all, it saves room on the dash. :-) Here are some pics. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14708&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14709&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14710&stc=1

I have a high quality SPA temp/pressure combom gauge. More on this in second posting. Cold (15C ambient), I run 90psi pressures up at 3500rpm and mid-80s at 3000rpm. After full warm up, the pressures peaks in the 70s psi. I run Mobil 1 5w30, the recommended weight for Zetecs. You should investigate if your readings are accurate and, if so, investigate the cause. As for the Caterham oil pressure sensor I used for several years (2000-2005), it failed about once per year so I went thru at least 3 as I recall. I learned (from internet, so who knows) these did not like vibration so I mounted it remote using a brass T adapter commonly used in braking systems and a -3 braided brake line. The line runs from the oil port next to the oil filter forward to the frame remote mount next to the right front suspension mounting area. Here are some pics but note that these have a SPA sensor which I will talk about in my next post. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14705&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14706&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14707&stc=1

Tell us what the operating conditions are. What is the ambient temperature? What oil temps are you getting? I've been running a Caterham with a Zetec and cooler (from Caterham) for 20 years. I almost always run a cover over the cooler in order to get higher oil temps. I target 200F as a minimum and like to see it more around 220F if possible. I live in the Pacific Northwest so it tends to be cool. I find your oil pressures to be rather low as well. How many miles on the Zetec? Unless it's really hot where you live, maybe other causes should be considered. John

front brake rotors for a 92 Caterham Super 7 DeDion?
johncg replied to d15b7's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I have a set which I took off of my '99 Caterham at about 1000 miles. You're welcome to them for cheap but the shipping may be significant as these are relatively heavy. I am in Oregon, zip 97330. John -
I have an slightly used (maybe 2k miles) Caterham rear exit exhaust for sale. It's the catalytic version for a Zetec. It includes everything from the 4:1 collector to the tail pipe. Please contact me if you are interested. jcgreeven@yahoo.com

I am installing a new set of rear calipers from Hi-Spec. For those interested, this is the link: http://www.hispecbrake.co.uk/calipers/SVA%20Ultralite%20HB.htm They are a 2 piston rear with or without a hand brake mechanism. Anyone have experience with any of their calipers, especially their rear calipers?
