It all comes down to profit. They likely saw enough demand for both models to justify carrying more SKUs, manufacturing processes/setups, etc. For a company whose mantra centers on simplification, this does feel like a step in the opposite direction, at least from a manufacturing standpoint. I would be curious to see the sales figures comparing the SV and the S3. -
Nice finish on carbon layup! I'm never done this before, so don't take me too seriously. Instead of a load cell, maybe you can use an inexpensive stick-on strain gauge. You'd probably want it on the bracket under the wing, or the base of the swan neck, closer to the roll bar attachment. You're going to have a lot of different forces in multiple directions (drag, lateral, downforce). The gauge will pick up the total of all of these, but as long as you align it vertically, downforce should be the predominant one. You wouldn't get precise values, but perhaps good enough to measure relative improvements as you make changes.

I can imagine a diffuser on the back as well. It looks like you can get a load cell and amplifier to work with Arduino. Integrating the load cells would be a little tricky, but it would be fun to collect some data and experiment with different attack angles.

I have a set of clamshell wings that I am hoping to find a good home for. They came off an approximately 1989 S3 Imperial Caterham. They are in excellent condition and have spent most of their lives in storage. There are no stress cracks or damage. They are already drilled for mounting and for lights. I am located in the western Connecticut and Massachusetts area. I would prefer local pickup, although I can arrange shipping at the buyer’s expense. I am not entirely sure what a fair price is. New wings from Caterham appear to cost about $340 after conversion and duties. I am thinking $350 dollars for the pair is reasonable. If I am off, please let me know.

The tire carrier is a good point. I am glad you mentioned that. I would think a 195/60/14 would be fine. Then again, I am wondering if carrying a spare is even worthwhile for me. Thanks!

I need to replace the tires on my newly acquired 1988 Caterham. It has fourteen inch wheels and the current tires are 185/60/14. What would be the optimal setup for both tire selection and size? I have been considering the Toyo R888 in the same size, but I am not sure if I would regret that choice for street driving. I do not plan to drive in the rain, although some moisture on the roads in the Northeast is unavoidable. Any advice would be appreciated.

I know I might get roasted for this, but I’m thinking about having a local shop go through the car if I can find someone I trust. I just don’t have as much time as I used to. @NSXguy This is really helpful. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Everything makes a lot of sense. It has a Dedion rear end, which should make things a little easier. What is your UK source for coolant lines? These seem to be a little difficult to track down. PS: I am in CT as well. Just north of Hartford.

It's only an hour to get the car home, but I'd like to take advantage of the heated shop and lift to get things done. Great suggestions! Thank you! Good catch on the fan. The previous owner wired the fan to a switch on the dashboard to control it manually. I assume because it ran on the cooler side, but I am not sure. Any idea how I could ID the slave cylinder and find a rebuilt kit?
