  1. The mystery V8 7 project is mine, the frame is 4 inches longer,4 inches wider and 2 inches taller, sort of like a Mcsorley but a little differant, the frame is made out of 1 1/2 0.83 square tubing,it has an SCCA legal roll cage made out of 1 1/2 dom 0.95 round tubing, mustang 2 front spindles, chrysler ball joints, custom lower contol arms, adjustable upper control arms, heavy duty hiem joints, pinto rack and pinion, heim joint tie rod ends, with adjustable bump steer, borgsan steering ujoints, ball bearing steering colum, removable steering, wheel, wilwood mastercylindeers, adjustable brake bias,2003 mustang cobra brakes,13 inch front rotors 2 piston front calipers.11.65 rear rotors, calipers with parking brake,4 link rear suspention with panard rod,4 mustang bullet wheels 17 x 10.5 rear,17 x 9.5 front, double pass custom radiator, electric fan,8.8 rear axel with 3.23 posi also 3.55 gear set,t5 transmision plus several other t5s and parts,.8 over drive gear set for t5,stock 5.0 ford v8,now for the engine,306 ci DDS short block, bilett crank, billet cap screw rods, forged flat top pistons, level 20 dds heat treated block, bored, decked, line bored, balanced, dds stud girgle with main studs,190 cc aluminiam heads 2.02/1.60 stainles steel valves,10 degree locks and retainers, screw in studs and stud girdle, crane roller rockers, ford motorsport x-303 cam, custom 8 quart oilpan, pump and pickup, aluminiam flywheel, hurst shifter, msd igniton box, autometer and vdo gauges,2 road race seats,2 rear fenders that need to be widened because the tires are so big, nose cone that needs to be widened, rci fuel cell, plus tons of othe parts that I forget I have lost interest in thus project and want to sell it call me at 540-207-2042 any time thanks Dave
  2. Darren I am building a 7 using 5.0 ford stuff,I am useing a moified form of 442,chassi is done ,suspention done engine and trans mounted, just finising up the cage, call me and you can come by and check it out, should be about the same size as you need,I am in fredericksburg Va Dave Planakis 540-207-2042
  3. Neet idea but not very pratical, the outside and inside of the tire have 2 differant rolling diamaters and will cause the left tire to pull to the right and the right tire to pull to the left, sort of like when you roll a drinking glass accrost the table, this will cause drag and tire scrub whitch will slow the car down and make it unstable a high speed,I have a ARCA stock car that we road race and in reasent years we have redune the suspention geometry so that when the car is at the apex of the corner both front wheels have 0 camber and have the greatest amount of tread on the track,we have seen lowwer lap times, better stability in fast corners and tread wear is 75% less (20 laps vs 80 laps) in closeing the problem is with the suspention design not the tire Dave Planakis Lotus 7 on steriods
  4. Thanks for every one info,I went with the manual set as I road race mostly and dont do any autocross DAVE
  5. Keeping things simple and light is all good but with as large a tire as I am running and with over 500 hp I am conserned about the steering effort at high speed, the weight differansce between power and manual is 15 lbs so that is less of a consern then control Dave
  6. I am in the prosses of building a 7 on steriods,I took the book plans and enlarged them by 10%,using a 5.0 ford V8 and most of the running gear from a fox body mustang. My question is should I use manual or power steering, the front tires will be 255/40/17 nitto nto5's and the car will weight around 1500/1600 lbs,I will be street driving and racing the car in SPO with the SCCA, I would like some feed back as some of you have gone in both directions David Planakis
  7. Do a search on Merkur XR4TI transmission tsbs there are several that deal with how to seal the trans, the XR4TI used a T9,if you cant find them I can send them to you Dave Planakis seven on steroids
  8. I agree we never went to the moon, the reason there are no tapes is so there will be no evidence, this was the best cover up ever David Planakis Seven on steriods

I know I am a little late in repling to this but the main problem with a ride quality in a stick axel 7 with high HP and more wieght than the normal 7 is that the rear trailing arms are to short, with a stick axel out of a big car like Mazda has the front of the pinion is forward of the trailing arms pivot point at the frame, also the arms are paralel, This makes the arc that the pinion travels and the arc that the avel tube travels differant and causes susspention/drive shaft bind I have lots of experiance with 4 link set ups,we use them in big HP drag cars and pro street cars, they ride very nice and have great wheel control,I am building a high HP V8 powered 7 and I have moved the trailing arm pivot pionts forward abougt 12 inches on the lower and 9 inches on the top also the upper bar angles downward about ten degrees this puts the instant center at about the middle of the engine block, this will allow the suspention to plant the tire on accelation with out squating the ass of the car also it allows more rollin the suspention when one wheel is moved verses the other without bind David Planakis Seven on steroids
  10. I have been upside down in a stock car at way over 100mph,not on purpose, and it was real scary,I think I will try to keep all 4 tires on the pavement, well at least 3 David Planakis
