Don't know for sure but I moved to Hopewell a year ago mid-May. Just missed it last year and there weren't any more after I moved...

There is a cruise night in Hopewell Boro, Mercer county NJ on May 8th from 5:30 to 8:30PM. There should be food, music and a bunch of cars. I missed it last year and have only lived here for a year but from the pictures I have seen there seems to be a good number of classics and some of the local Lotus guys come out (Sports and Specialist Cars, a Lotus dealership is right here in "downtown" Hopewell). I plan on being there. Thought I would throw it out there for anybody else who is intereted. Kyle

I might be up for that drive...I should have the Birkin in NJ this weekend and depending on the status of inspection/registration etc I would love to meet up.

I agree with Al. The guys on this board have been great to me through a search for a car. Questions answered and concerns addressed. I took a lot less time than Al in making the jump from looker to buyer but to be fair I have been working my way through the looking phase on a couple other genres of sports car for a couple of years. Dick was great if you can get yourself to Texas. There are definitely a bunch of cars out there and a few posts on this site and the yahoo birkin owners group found me three so far that I have not seen listed anywhere else. I can provide numbers and some details if interested... Good luck. The anticipation will keep building and now that I pulled the trigger, the idea that it won't get here for a few more weeks is killing me!! Kyle

I'm pretty sur ethey are separate as some of the Birkins have a shorter set of headers to accomodate the length of the cat. There was at least one in Dick's shop with a separate cat. Guess I'll give it a try. If not the combo muffler/cat converter might be an option.

I am told that when the exhaust shielding falls off it sometims hits the odo/speedo cable and knocks it loose as well... Mike, having gone thought this recently, what do you think about 1) getting it through as a collector vehicle with a title that says 2003...and 2) through emissions with no catalytic converter?
-
I have a pair of pilotis I bought off amazon...size 13 feet and with the pedals adjusted well, I was able to drive a Birkin without trouble and Croc's SV as well. I had some trouble in a standard caterham though.
-
Thanks to all... I saw the title, currently registered as a 2003 'assembled vehicle' in Texas. Title notes that it is a replica of a 1967 Lotus. I don't think that it will be a problem getting it titled in NJ, I'm more worried about the inspection and getting it street legal...

As of Saturday I have a downpayment on the red and silver Birkin at Texas Motor Works. I was there over the weekend and that thing flat out flies... Definitely could tell the difference between it and the other car I was there to see as well as a few others I have driven. Gotta get it home and street legal (no small task in NJ). I hope to make it to Carlisle with her next month! Kyle

Its official...made a downpayment on the red Birkin at Texas Motor Works and should have the car here and hopefully legal by then...

I can't wait to join you all soon. I have seen and driven Mike's car...my first time in the presence of a Seven and he let me drive it! Anyway, the obsession has fully taken hold and I'm looking actively with money in hand! I hope to be legal by Carlisle (maybe wishful thinking, but we'll see). Kyle

Any idea what price range he is in...? I am going to Arlington to visit Dick Brink next weekend and might want to see this car. Kyle

The Yellow Caterham from Texas Motorworks is now on ebay. If you read the description he lists the reserve as $25.5k. Kyle

there is a lot of fishy stuff going on around that car...

heard this on the radio... a year ago if you had bought $1000 dollars of delta you would have %40 today, is you bought AIG you would have $40, if you bought Lehman Bros $0, but if you spent $1000 on cheap beer and drank it all and turned in the cans for the refund, you would have $250. They called it the 401 keg... I did the math and I guess it depend on what your state gives for a refund but I think this would have to be some pretty cheap beer. Enjoy, and invest wisely. Kyle

Thanks to everyone for the input. I spent a few minutes on the phone with one of the guys from this board and for now I think the purchase is on hold. The car had some other issues and is a little overpriced... I am going to try and see a few more cars before I decide. I will keep all the advice in mind though should I end up with this, or another, classic sized Cat. Thanks, Kyle

Jeff, you have a message. Tom, I thought of that and of your previous post showing the difference in height driver v. passenger in your car. The lower part of the seat does push my thighs up into the wheel so that is a simple (and cheap) option. Pi7ot, thought of that too but at least on the Caterham and RMSC sites I didn't see any options for the length of a replacement. I suppose that an extension could be welded in? The spacer was the best the seller could come up with but I personally thing that a 1-2 inch spacer is going to look terrible, at least where I am thinking that it would go. Kyle

Test-drove a seven here in NJ yesterday...standard size is a little tighter than Croc's SV I drove a few weeks ago but I am OK with width. I ordered a pair of driving shoes which I think will take care of the pedal-box issue (if not I have found a whole bunch of adaptations on this site that would come next). My question is about the steering shaft. The way it was set-up the wheel and my knees are at the same point (front-to-back) and there is nowhere up or down for the knees to go to get out of the way. The seller tried to lengthen the steering wheel end of the steering assembly/shaft at the joint just inside the engine bay but there was very little room for adjustment there and we couldn't see any more adjustability farther forward at the U-joint for the rack. Any suggestions on how to bring the steering wheel an inch or two closer to me? I would also be interested in a quick release/removable wheel. Do those mechanisms usually add a little length? Last option is a flat-bottomed wheel which would help a little as well. Interested in thoughts and options. Thanks. Kyle

Right now I am planning to join you all at Carlisle...either with the wife and kid and the SUV or with a little luck and patience, in a Caterham (looking at one that sounds tempting this weekend...). Kyle
-
seriously...there is slow and there is REALLY slow!

First off I love your Birkin and the Locost both in the black trim with exposed aluminum, I think that is my favorite overall color combo. Can't say I like the look of the Dixon... Second, what an awesome view. Doesn't matter much what you are driving, or what color it is, when you can see that at a rest stop. Kyle
