  1. Anyone have a quieter exhaust solution running with rotary power? (much hotter and louder).
  2. By "quiet" I mean below 95db and sounds properly like a sports/racing car without hurting your ears or the neighbors; or the neighborhood pets' ears. Like maybe you could have a conversation with a passenger without screaming type quiet.
  3. Who has a quiet exhaust system and how?
  4. Anyone know a good custom exhaust shop in the DC metro region?
  5. Would it be crazy to install 2 Hushpower 16 inch mufflers serially?
  6. That's a great tip. Thanks,
  7. Would it work to put the hushmaster closer to the headers and another one under the heat shield by the passenger entry area?
  8. What kind of exhaust is that?
  9. Didn't know about the custom muffler. I just bought the stainless pro model on Amazon for $139.00 and free Prime shipping, but would return it if I could get someone to build me a bigger one.
  10. I read a couple of places that extended exposure to 95db will cause hearing loss. Is anything quieter than that but still "sporty" worthy of a 7?
  11. My rotary engine is way too hot and way too loud. Have had several exhaust systems attempted. Flowmaster recommended this one: Hushpower 13016100 Pro Series Muffler Any other solutions? I bought one of Martin's cool Seven heat shields, which is 18" by 6" but expands to cover a 6 inch plus diameter muffler. Suggestions?
  12. Ok. Then. If I want a tire for occasional track use and mostly summer, non-wet driving, will I be safe , if reasonably careful, with the car on RA-1's if they don't get a chance to heat up around town?
  13. http://www.kitcar.com/images/1pixelspacer.gif A collection of Prince of Darkness jokes (courtesy of Paul Mossberg, New Jersey Replicar Club) http://www.kitcar.com/images/red1pixelbar.gif The Lucas Electric motto: "Get home before dark." Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim "sudden, unexpected darkness." Lucas--inventor of the first intermittent wiper. Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp. The three-position Lucas switch--DIM, FLICKER and OFF. The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE. The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products. "I've had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced any prob... If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either. Did you hear about the Lucas powered torpedo? It sank. It's not true that Lucas, in 1947, tried to get Parliament to repeal Ohm's Law. They withdrew their efforts when they met too much resistance. Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night, since they all look the same?" "He replied, it doesn't matter which one you use, nothing happens!" Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck. Quality Assurance phoned and advised the Engineering guy that they had trouble with his design shorting out. So he made the wires longer. Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas makes the refrigerators. Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone. Thomas Edison invented the Light Bulb. Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit. Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas equipment: check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk three times sunwise around your car chanting: "Oh mighty Prince of Darkness protect your unworthy servant." Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random frequency.
  14. What is your experience with Toyo RA1's driving around town or countryside if they haven't heated up yet?
  15. Don't want to spray line-x or any other material on rear fenders. Gonna get Toyo RA1's and they throw stone chips. So, thought I'd go with black film. Thanks Croc for the suggestion. Where to find?
  16. Any other brand that folks can recommend for a 7 for daily use, mostly in dry weather and one or two track days a year other than Toyos? Mine are mounted on 15x7 Panasports. Want spirited drives. Don't need all season. Was going comparison shop Toyos with my local dealer against Tire Rack. Local dealer is Radial Tire, reknown guys in the racing business, but it is a two to four hour wait to get tires on your car. They are lined up there as early as 7AM every day. So, looking for a discount seller who can drop ship them.
  17. Any suggestions for reasonably quiet and cool muffler? If not how about a heat shield for a hot muffler?
  18. I'm in Maryland with same problem. I keep mine in the boot, but can hang the top two holes from the grille with garbage ties and the bottom has velcro when needed. Somebody makes a cool fold-down one that folds away under the car except when needed, it flips up.
  19. The Kumho's are too conservative, too rigid. Break loose too easily. Feel unbalanced. Not a good setup for spirited driving. I've heard the Nittos are great, but what is best for daily driving, country twisties and a few racing experiences a year?
  20. I have had 45 cars and most of the toys among them have only lasted 18 months at my house, but the 96 Miata in beautiful Montego Blue lasted 2.5 years. Of course not even a light bulb burnt out. Most reliable non offensive transportation sports car appliance out there. It was almost so well fitted to driving that it was invisible. Only reason I sold the appliance it was that its perfection and performance were boring. So, I got an M3, which changed my outlook on life. When I finally got the M3 to a track I found out what German engineering was all about and discovered the car's true personality. I didn't get that feeling from the Miata. As far as permagrin is concerned, I've had three second gen Mini Cooper S's, one with John Cooper Works. I wish Miatas had that same smile factor. Again, the M3 is the drool queen for most Mini owners on their forums, so I got the permagrin and the temporary Viagra injection when I step on the pedal from the Bimmer. The weekend driver is the 7 and there simply is no better overall sports car experience than the 7. Maybe they need to make a masculine and feminine version of the Miata. One with haunches and more growl in the grille with a turbocharger. Sorta like having a regular and an S version like Mini does. I really think the vanilla and S version of the Miata would be a great marketing move for Mazda.

Not to hijack this thread, but what are your favorite gearhead shows besides the BBC America British Editions of Top Gear?
  22. Yeah. The one thing you lose when you change out the rotary is hp, Mine puts out about 220. I love the power.
  23. So if one used the car mostly for the road and just one or two track events yearly just to enjoy the experience and not win every event, wouldn't a stock Duratec from a wrecked car work? Could I buy one on ebay from someone with a lot of good feedback offering a decent warranty and have it installed, if I am not concerned with squeeezing every bit of horsepower out of it through modifications? What wrecker would work? What transmission would I mate it with? I'm not mechanical, so I am looking for what to buy to have a skilled mechanic install.
  24. This is great information from someone with experience. Very helpful comparisons. Thank you
  25. Not to be a terrible cheapskate, but these ate just about 10 percent off retail. Also wonder if forum members have found equally effective panoramic mirror solutions for significantly less money,
