  1. The AWD just came out a few months ago. Check out MINIUSA.com The supercharged ones are great because you can modify them for less money with even more power than a JCW or JCW retrofit. Great performance. I think the turbos handle a little better but the turbosteer in the wet is a bother. You can buy a later model S supercharged model cheap and have a ball. Huge bang for the buck and big smiles. Terrific bargain in a used performance car.
  2. Yes. They now make an all wheel drive MINI. MINIs are awesome. They are drivers' cars. Nothing is the same as a 7 though, but MINI is probably way more comfortable on long trips, way quieter, more civilized, no problem in rain, but ditch the runflats and put a doughnut in the back seat. You need to drive one. The only thing is that the plastic retro centerpiece stuff on the newer dashes are really stupid.
  3. I have owned three MINI Cooper S's. One was a 2004 coupe. I had a 2006 convertible with triptronic and a 2006 convertible with 6 speed and John Cooper Works dealer retrofit. Random points. First of all, there have been review articles on reliability. The only real problem ones were 2001 and 2002 and that was about a rear hatch clasp. The reviews demonstrated that after about 2004 they are trouble free. Each of mine were fabulous cars with little or no problems. I loved them to death. The only reason I got rid of my MINIs was : 1. I hate the triptronic. 2. my wife hated the convertibles because of the poor side vision and the obstructed view in the rear due to the rollbars. This is improved with the new convertibles that have popups like the BMW verts. I moved from the MINI to a Miata due to money. It was a blast but I also felt it was chicky looking and underpowered but like a toaster that never breaks. Finally I got an M3 because I wanted the sheer power. I can't tell you how much I loved the MINIs. They are just awesome. They are really roomy inside or they have the feeling. The ergonomics are the best. This is a driver's car. The fun factor cannot be overemphasized. I couldn't help smiling most of the time. Talk about Permagrin! There is a problem in the wet with the newer ones with turbo steer. Not sure the all wheel drive version is worth it for the price. Gas mileage is great, but not on the John Coopers. Lots of aftermarket parts, so you don't need to go to John Cooper. Great car community. Lots of engineers like the 7 folks. Similar peeps. The base non-S model is quite peppy. Cool options and you can design a car a zillion ways. Cool colors. Only reason I wouldn't get another one is that I have a bucket list and I haven't bought a Porsche yet.
  4. Having a hard time finding out racing school insurance for the 7. Also, is there anything wrong with using a full face motorcycle helmet at the track?
  5. I'll be going to Summit Point for my first time race driving school at Fridays at the Track. I'll have the RX-7 powered Rotus and my brother-in-law will be driving my 01 M3 vert and my brother his 911 twin turbo AWD Porsche. Any tips or would couldas you can think of for us to be best prepared?
  6. I, also don't understand why this car didn't sell yet at this asking price. Would also like to hear an explanation of why it is still available.

I don't want to be in charge, but can help and drive up, possibly in Killerbee. She just had most of the final touches done at RP Performance at Summit Point.
  8. Just for fun, here's our local Katie's Cars and Coffee held in Great Falls, Virginia. Just a few 7's in these pics (Mazda Is that Frankn7?) but spring is here. Notice the number of supercars, which is related to the fact that this gathering is located in upscale horse country just south of Washington, DC. https://picasaweb.google.com/drsms22/BestOfKatieSCarsAndCoffee#
  9. Frankly, the inexpensive availability of the Honda S2000 (S2K) engine and tranny should be taken very seriously as a bullet proof solution to significant power in a 7.
  10. Buy my Killerbee with a rotary for 18,500 and, if you don't like rotaries, put just about any motor in it you like and still be way under budget. Croc's car is really classy. Also, there are often Lotus 7 variants on eBay. I saw three the other day. But you really need to think about Birkins and Stalkers to have a more complete picture of your options. Even though my car's for sale, I still think Croc's car is the real deal.
  11. Listed with broker on eBay.
  12. Couple of Youtube videos of Killerbee Rotus
  13. Ah perfectionism. I'd like to go vomit there just to make it interesting. Do they have a robot for cleaning that up?
  14. My guess is he cheated on her really badly and his not fighting back was an admission of guilt.
  15. I am not familiar with those folks. Do you have specifics?
  16. Great advice. Thanks
  17. So, at the tender age of 68 I have signed up for up for my first track training day at Summit Point for June. I will be running my Rotus. Currently it has 15 inch wheels with Kuhmo Esta ASX 205-50-R15 tires. I understand these tires are not appropriate for the track. I will probably run on my 14 inch racing Panasports, but would like suggestions for a track tire. I do not plan to autocross, just occasionally track it at Summit Point. Suggestions?
  18. Dennis Hedges, the former shop foreman of Rotus probably has the jigs or the fenders. I know the car you have. I also have a Rotus with a rotary, but mine isn't a turbo like yours.
  19. Maybe a USA7 member lives closer to it and can take a preliminary look at it for you before you take the trip. Just a thought.
  20. Link should be correct now.

  22. Right now my daily driver is a 2001 M3. IMHO it is gorgeous and I love it but it is kind of heavy to throw around compared to the Porsches. Also, you have to be careful because the rear end goes out on you as part of the driving experience. Really a killer road and track car. I used to think of the Boxster as a safe compromise like a Miata. I've had a Miata and loved it, but it was tame (Didn't have the turbo). I have been hearing all kinds of glowing stuff about the regular driving experience of the Boxster S and need to reconstruct my ideas about it in my head.
  23. Discuss among yourselves. Wife is tired of having no room in the garage and old cars that require her meeting me at AAA pickup places when the old cars, including the 7 break down. She is forcing a choice: 2001 BMW M3 versus 2003-2005 Porsche Boxter S versus 1999-2001 Porsche 911 (early 996). Your thoughts (besides disposing of wife or enlarging garage)?
