I can just picture what's going on right now inside all those 1" square tubes. Even though the outside of the tubing is either painted or powder coated the inside will corrode until the powder coat is the only thing holding the tube together.

Were you able to get the Birkin on and off with the attached folding ramp without hitting the oil pan? Thanks, Roy

It's a custom build and a "bugger". Hard to get around the steering column, avoid the cooling hose and exit at the side. But a lot of fun! Cheers, Roy

The car is sold - Thanks to all of you for the interest. The design is somewhat based upon the McSorley 442E sketches but has been altered to accommodate an independent rear suspension. Basically the chassis is 4” longer, 4” wider and 2” taller than a typical ”book” build. The donor engine, transmission and differential are from a 2001 Mazda Miata. The stock 1.8 liter engine produces 142 HP @ 7000 RPM. The Miata front and rear uprights are used as well as the brake discs, and cylinders. The chassis is constructed from 1” and ¾” square mild steel tubing with all joints TIG welded. Fenders, cowl and nose are fiberglass, all other siding is aluminum sheet. The car also has the following features: · Variable Valve Timing (VVT) · Miata stock ECU but the electrical system is set up to accommodate a Mega Squirt III, with MS 3X expander card in the event a turbo-charger is desired. · Sealed aluminum fabricated fuel tank with a stock fuel pump mounted in the tank. (9.7 gals.) · Fiberglass reproduction front and rear fenders. · 6 speed transmission · Limited slip differential · Shortened steering rack (Miata), manual steering · Cobra-style seats with 5 point harnesses · Brake and clutch pedal unit adjustable for different drivers Registered and licensed in the State of California, under SB100 (smog exempt). The car is essentially complete and drivable, but still needs preparation and paint of the fiberglass parts and polishing of the aluminum panels. This would make a great car for someone who would like to learn the intimate details of how a car functions and how it is constructed. The car can be purchased with a single axle aluminum trailer (see photos). The trailer has extra aluminum ramps to handle the low ground clearance of the Locost.
