  1. I just got home and checked, and you are correct. There are holes in front of the roll bar. I don't know how I missed them before. I have to bend the bar a bit to get the ends in the holes, but it works. I even velcro'd on the top to have a look at the top, and it seems to be correct. I guess I'll just rack it up as a "stupid me" moment. :leaving: Oh, and thanks everyone. I have a feeling it will not be the last time I will need help, and definitely not the last "stupid me" moment.
  2. I looked at that, but I think I'll have to shorten the bar by about an inch on either side. That affects the way the top fits though. I think the top and the bar I have may be for the IRS Birkin that is a touch wider than my LA. I have been searching the internet (with no luck) for pictures of the reccomended set up. I want to have a look at the parts involved before I modify anything.
  3. Sadly I'll have to run a Windows emulator on my Mac to run Iracing. I have been looking into it a bit though. In another car forum I belong to, we run a weekly challenge for points in Gran Turismo 5 though. It keeps a bit of the rust off during the winter. Last year a bunch of us purchased the Obbuto racing chair as we got a spectacular deal from the Canadian distributor.
  4. Yesterday I made the trip out to pick up the last of the parts I needed from the guy I purchased the car from. I did this despite feeling under the weather for the last little while. I picked up the shorter stock rollbar, and the two tops for her. I got both the Birkini top and the full roof for Beatrice. It does open the question for me on how the roof bar mounts. By roof bar, I mean the one that gets assembled and then velcro'd to the tops. I don't have any receivers for the bar in the roll bar, and I don't have any hinges that the bar should fit into. Are there bosses for the bar hidden under the sheet aluminum that wraps the frame. Would anyone have some pictures of how the bottom of the bar mounts to the car? Is there any interest in the sport roll bar that I now have extra? I have not installed the bar, but it has the odd bit if scuffing from being moved around so much over the 12 years it has been following the car around.
  5. Don't I know it. Time is moving too fast for me to keep up, yet I can't wait. I have the harnesses on route now. I am trying to get the Alternator mount sorted, and the Intake will be ordered at the beginning of Feb. Today Ill be continuing the electrical, and sorting out the dogs breakfast it looks now. I removed some of the electrical tape on a bit of the harness the other day, and I was surprised to see labels on the wire. I have not toned any to see if they are accurate, and I don't know if any more than the couple I looked at are actually labelled. I plan on removing all the tape to start fresh. It just seems easier that way.
  6. This past summer I took the plunge, and sold a stage three built WRX for a 1999 Birkin. I'm an impulsive type of guy, and wanted something fast and unique to Autox. I did not even ride in one before making the trade. A couple of members here (and all around good guys) were kind enough to give me a few rides each during some Autox's here in Calgary. Any doubts I had about the purchase disappeared faster than the smile on my face appeared. Be sure to sit in a Birkin as it is a tight fit. I am only 5'6" 210lbs, and I feel big in it. That's the point though. I did almost all the mods on my WRX, but building the Birkin is a little different. It can, and will feel a bit daunting at times but if I can get through it, a drunk monkey can.
  7. I would like to go to this as I have not run at Stratotech before. I will have to wait and see what the ASA, CSCC, and SASCC schedules are like for Autox first though.
  8. Finally got some good sticky rubber for Beatrice. Found some Toyo's on the Locostusa site, and decided the price was too good to pass up. Only three tires for now, but I have a line on two more.
  9. Sorry I missed the meeting today. Just got in from the mountains, and didn't really have the chance to get sorted before the meet. I look forward to another meeting though.
  10. I looked at that camera too. I like that it had a rotatable lens, like the Contour series. I also liked the built in screen for view finding. The best feature to the Drift camera is the remote control wrist strap. I would recommend looking into the Contour series of cameras. I have not played too much with it yet, but the ease of use is a huge advantage. I drive with gloves, and like that when pressing the power button the camera lights up and gives an audible tone, then sliding the record button forward starts the recording, with more lights and tones. So easy to use.
  11. I was lucky enough to get a camera for Christmas as well. I decided to go with the Contour Plus instead though. I like that it has the added features of GPS and Bluetooth compatibility with my Iphone for view finding. I just need the rollbar mount for it and an external mic now.
  12. I wrote the owner of the add, but have not heard anything back. Looking at the add, I am unsure if this is actually a 2012 kit though. The headlight brackets look like they are the same as on my 1999 Birkin.
  13. My weekly searches through Kijiji found this add: http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-2012-Birkin-Lotus-kit-car-W0QQAdIdZ338634777 I have no affiliation with this car.
  14. Yes, but not without a few words about it. We rent a condo, and a garage. Since it's a bit of a pain getting to the garage every time I need to, she lets me bring projects home.
  15. I did end up painting over the snaps, but I experimented with the snaps first. I found that if the snaps were unprepped the plasi-dip came off easily. I plan in running a blade over the edge of the snaps to cut through the plasti-dip, and then peel off the outside bits. With a good sharp blade I'll cut the rings at the base of each snap as well, to ensure no runs when I pull off the dip. Not a lot of progress happening this past month with Trixxy. I have finished the breather system for the tank, the easy way. I have t'd the fuel filler neck to the top breather, and run the hose to the side of the car where I will have a tip over valve in place, and a small filter to prevent bugs getting in. I will next be putting in the fuel filler cap. I had a filler on the car when I got it, but no keys for it. I cut the rivets on the old one and set out to get a new one that looked a little better. I'll have to widen the hole for it, but I think it is a much better look. I also got to donate some time to the headlight assemblies, and may have gone a little overboard. I "western union" stagger spliced the wires for both the headlight and the signal, and then soldered them for good measure. After a covering of waterproof heat shrink, I encased all the wires in a heat shrink. From there I intend to loom the wires and put a final covering of heat shrink on the loom, all the way up to the base of the nut on the hollow bolt for the bucket. It may be overkill, but I'm hoping I won't have to do it again soon.
  16. Great video. I like the music. I think I even saw Calgary around the 30sec mark. Not much else I reconize though.
  17. I would appreciate that.
  18. @11Budlite- Unfortunately I didn't get one of those in my kit. I can see how that would be helpful though. I have some cooling system parts on order from Dick, but he made no mention of that adaptor when we were discussing the topic. I just checked on the parts, and they are in Calgary Postal Facility now, so hopefully he decided to throw one in. @jlumba81- I had been looking at the Raceline water rail earlier. Cost was a major issue for me though. The shipping on those parts is a bit of a killer. I have been looking at the alternator bracket they make though, so maybe adding in the thermostat housing wouldn't be so bad. I'll know more about if I want to take you up on your offer after I get this load of parts in.
  19. I was getting down to work on Beatrice last night and I put the thermostat housing on that I pulled from the wrecker over the weekend. I noticed that it was a very tight fit where the thermostat housing ports empty. Both the feed to the Radiator, and the other other port that feeds the hose on the left of the housing are within a half inch of the foot box. This creates some serious kinking in the hoses on that side. I guess I'm looking for some feedback and/or pictures on how you folks have solved this issue on the 2L Zetec. I have considered purchasing a Raceline water rail, but I have heard the challenges with it as well. I looked at quite a few Zetec motors over the weekend, and I didn't see any thermostat housings that would fit better. Am I not planning on running a heater for the time being so I'll just be plugging the feed on the other side. Thanks for the help.
  20. That's why I think I'll wait. I have a long list of parts needed to complete the build, and I'd rather not chance spending more on a part that is in good condition now. I'll wait until the windshield needs replacing and get the frame powder coated then.
  21. The Birkin windshield appears to be riveted together and I am not so keen on pulling it apart to powder coat it. I'll wait until the windshield needs replacing and purchase a frame in black. For now though, I will use one of my favourite materials for DIY projects...... Plastidip. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a spray/dip plastic in many different colours. In the past I have used it on foglight covers, front grills, and even dashboard components. I like using it because it is very resilient to chips and cracks because it remains pliable when dry. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/c9ce99c7.jpg For some reason I got a little crazy with the tape, and taped the entire glass surface. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/227d7497.jpg I have scuffed the surface with a 3M pad, and cleaned it up. I'll be spraying it in the next little while. I live in a condo that I rent, and don't really have a good place to spray the frame. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/21904444.jpg
  22. I like the look of yellow and black for now, but the long term plan will include a respray to a gunmetal grey/silver, with the stripe in red.
  23. Still been pretty quiet, but I have a lot of parts on the way, so I should really be able to make a few jumps forward in the project soon. I sent out a couple parts for powder coat to Top Gun Coatings in Calgary, and I got the parts back today. The service there is great, they got the parts done in four days, for a great price. I am not a fan of chrome on my cars, and I knew that looking into the back of the headlight buckets was going to drive me nuts. I got the buckets, headlight arms, windshield uprights and the front fender arms powder coated a flat black that sort of looks like the canvas of the tonneau. Here's a before and after of the buckets. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/d459c764.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/a506360a.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/c9ffba8a.jpg
  24. That is one pretty 7!
  25. +1 one for that.
