To keep busy with the build while waiting for the intake, cooling system parts and an alternator solution, I figured I'd keep busy with the chassis harness. I took all the dash harness out and started cleaning it up a bit. Despite a blinding hangover I made my way over to the shop to get the wiring sorted. Here's a look at the direction its going.

Thank you Jason. Looks like a great solution, and without question, one that will work. I managed to locate another kit for the Zetec that is out there, and it looks to use a similar Alternator. It is available on Kitspares.co.uk. I'll be costing out the solutions and hopefully having something positive to report in the very near future. As mentioned before, I have wrestled with this particular set of parts for a while now, and have felt anxious about getting it sorted.

That would be great Jason. :hurray: I have been wrestling with this challenge for far too long already. I'd be interested in the part number for the alternator as well if you have it. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. I got a reply in my build thread (sorry about the cross posting) from Marine7 indicating challenges with the Raceline Alternator mount in the Birkin. I wanted to see if anyone else had seen the same challenges, and were able to overcome them, while still using the Raceline mount. The vendor that fell through last week assures me he can get it done by the end of this week. I'm having a little doubt as to if the Raceline bracket is right for my build now though.

Thanks to you Sir. That is the same one from the Build Doctor website, but for some reason it does not show up on my computer now, but it did on my phone this morning. The other place to find this diagram is at: http://www.birkindirect.com/build-doctor under group 6. I know there is at least one more diagram out there, and it includes some of the tie in's for the ECU harness. Thanks for the feedback.

I have been waiting to hear back from the Raceline for a few days now, but I know that I have the same cross brace that you mention. I haven't got months to get it running, and would like a confirmed solution on the quicker side of things. I am very interested in other solutions to the challenge, and your solution in particular. Would you be able to provide a pic or two on your solution? Where did you find the alternator for this application? I will also look into the Dunnel solutution. This is the first I have heard of Dunnel, but from first glance, they seem to have some good solutions. Thanks for the input Jason.

Bump from the dead. I am knee deep in the wiring of my Birkin using the diagram off the build doctor site. If this is a different PDF of the wiring, I would be very interested in seeing it. Would anyone want to forward a copy to me as well? :seeya:

This is a part I have had some issues sourcing, and I figured it can't hurt to throw this out there. I will need the idler pulley set up as well as the bracket. I have tried the source now open in the states, and it fell through. I am currently trying to get ahold of Raceline in the UK, but the shipping will be a killer.

I am aiming to be in. I have booked the time, and franticly working on Beatrice.

First weekend in August if I remember correctly, with the destination being the island for a meet. That's when I was thinking of heading there. Karina is looking forward to it. To the OP, sorry for the thread jack.

It drives me bonkers waiting for parts. I think I'll go ahead and get the dash board done while I wait for the intake. Unfortunately I heard back from the vendor in the states that deals in Raceline, and he just gave me a refund. A stand up thing to do I guess, but I'm still out an alternator bracket. :banghead: I guess I'll look across the pond for the part, and go from there. A little setback, but nothing to panic about yet.

You bet. I'm working at it. Hopefully this year Kitty and I will be making a run out to Vancouver to test out Beatrice. A practice run for the big club run the following year. :driving:

I am very jealous of the roads and the weather down there. Looks like fun.

Parts are still rolling in. I managed to pick up a starter yesterday, and I ordered the intake early this week. Various switches and connectors arrived yesterday. The only part I'm having a challenge with is the Raceline Alternator bracket I ordered from a new Raceline vendor in the States. Three weeks (to the day) since I paid the invoice, and I have had no communication from the vendor. :banghead: I decided on the Jenvey intake for my Beatrice, and a Haltech 1000 for the ECU. I have the stock ECU and harness for the Zetec, but after doing some searching and chatting about the setup, I have concluded the Haltech will give me more room to grow, with a smoother install with a raw harness. I am still working on the chassis harness on the kitchen table at home, but I should be moving it over to the car this weekend. I was let in on a secret that I may be getting a carbon fiber dash for my birthday, so I may only be able to sort out the harness to the fuse and connection blocks because I intend on moving some of the lights and switches around. I picked up a complete trouble light kit from europaspares.co.uk and feel it will be a greatway to get all my lighting needs met in a compact package. I also want to do a bank of simple toggle switches /guards in the middle of the dash, under the other gauges. I think it should be a clean look, but now I have to wait for the dash to arrive. :driving:

I have been looking into a trailer a little recently as well. As it happens, the RV show rolled through Calgary last weekend, and I fell in lust with a VRV trailer there. looks like everything I want in a toy hauler. The farthest bench folds up, and the two closest raise up and out of the way. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/707c5670.jpg

Aww. That's too bad. I'm glad that you got back to me so quickly before I purchased a tool pack I couldn't use. Thanks. I guess I'll have to build a computer to use this Sim. Many good programs often don't run on Mac. A flight Sim I used to use for RC helicopters, and Iracing both seem to omit the compatibility with Mac. That's a shame too, since the Mac has a good amount of horsepower to run these programs, and seems to be gaining on market share.

Looks good. I just had a quick look, (at work) but I'm interested in giving this game a try. I still play GT5 every week, and could always use some more simulated seat time. I joined the forum on my phone, and see the different packages that can be purchased, but I did not see a system requirements page. I sold my soul to Apple long ago, and hate the idea of running a flakey bootcamp. Before I purchase a tool pack, Is WMDCars available for the Mac?

Yeah, I was in Vancouver all week and needed to catch up on a few things around the house over the weekend. I plan on going to the garage a couple times this week.
-
Can we assume, your gorgeous 7 will be there?
-
I would go, just for the free passes all weekend. You get a certain number to give out, and get to enjoy a car filled weekend talking about cars with your friends. The way I see it, it's a great deal of fun.

The World of Wheels show is once again rolling through Calgary this February 17-21. I was curious if anyone was intending on showing off their cars.

Life has been getting in the way of my build recently. Work trips, and other social commitments have prevented me from getting on it like I would like. Last weekend I managed to get some work done on the electrical system. When I first got her, I noticed that there were some holes in the dash that were unevenly spaced, out of round, or just looking like they were hacked at with a chain saw by a blind chimpanzee. Several of the gauges are rubbing against the frame behind the dash plate and preventing them from sitting flush in the dash. This annoys me to no end, but I realize that I have most of the parts and changing parts here is not essencial to getting her running. Still though, I am looking at eventually getting a super gauge from Stack. Compared to what I have currently, the Stack is super sexy. This... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/e0a18994.jpg Or this? http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/a25519d9.jpg The work on the electrical system today consisted of removing all the ten year old electrical tape that is deteriorating on the wires. I started with removing the tape, but may have gotten a bit carried away. I ended up removing all the tape, but followed up by removing the relays, the plugs, the fuse boxes, and eventually all the wire itself. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/3e5e3612.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/c68e5712.jpg I have started a webspace detailing the build to date. I tend to update it before here. Have a look and let me know what you think. Comments are welcome. http://lennardj.shawwebspace.ca

I feel that may be where my confusion set in. I would swear the taller sport roll bar I have uses bolts in those holes. Tonight I'll continue to tear into the chassis harness. I pulled out all the wire from behind the dash, to the relay plate last time. I just hung it over the dash as I was relabeling it all. I have the front lights mounted to the car and ready to connect to the chassis harness. Are you folks using a connector that you build to connect under the hood, or hard splicing the connection points? I don't see much reason for an additional connection point here, as the main point of disconnect is only a couple feet away in the headlight bucket. If your experiences have leaded you to advise making a connector, what ones do you prefer? I also mangaed to get the breather sorted for the tank. the other day. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/7710ab2d.jpg
